screen flicker on launch with new laptop

I bought a new laptop, and every time I launch Eve (in window mode) there is very bad flickering which sometimes causes my driver to crash. The only way I know how to fix it is, on character select, to hit escape to bring up the game menu. This starts the flickering. When I select Fullscreen, the flickering goes away. At this point I can go back to Windowed mode.

Are there any solutions to this?

Specs:

Windows 8.1
Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M (2GB)
12Gb RAM
