Show Physically Simulated Hair in Portraits

Hello Pilots, it's your Friendly Banana coming to you with an issue.

I've got a suggestion which is also somewhat of a question. After discussing this issue with several others recently, and even mentioning it to CSM corbexx to look into, I figured it was about time I made an actual thread to make this an actual suggestion.

TL:DR -I'd like to see the physically simulated hair look remain in final portraits.

Physically Simulated Hair and Cloth
We've all seen it in the character creator, the gorgeous flowing long-locks of hair, the ponytails hanging effortlessly behind the wearer's back, the braids draped gracefully over one's shoulder. But you see once you've taken your new portrait it doesn't come out looking anything at all like that. In fact, with the mothballing of WiS, the physically simulated hair and cloth look is nothing more than a WiS legacy that hangs in the character creator, teasing us with a level of beauty we can only dream about retaining in our final, rendered portraits.

Here's an example. Take me, The Banana, I recently changed my hairstyle to the lovely braids you see before you. When I completed the portrait and inspected it pre-render/update I thought "Wow, that's awesome"

Before final portrait render: http://i.imgur.com/6FKy4JP.jpg

Then after the portrait eventually rendered/updated I was left stunned and more than a little dissapointed to see my braids suddenly floating in mid-air!

After the final render: https://image.eveonline.com/character/942849185_1024.jpg

Ewww, right? What?

As it turns out, this is the reason we see a ton of portraits around with distorted looking hair, especially ponytails. It's the same reason we see our long hair suddenly cut short in the final portrait, it's the reason braids somehow defy physics and begin to levitate.

CCP, the servers seem to recognize the simulated hair look just fine (look at the pre-rendered version of my own, ingame). But for some reason it does not keep this look after the portrait is rendered/updated and it returns to the non-simulated appearance. Not only is this purely ugly and wasting people's time in the character creator, but it seems like an enormous waste of what is a spectacular part of your character creator.

Please CCP, can you allow us to keep the simulated hair appearance in final portraits. Pretty please?

If not, why?

Thank you for taking the time to read. ♥

I normally have short hair, but there have been a few times where I've noticed some very annoying incongruities between how my client renders the portrait and how the server renders it. Silliness. Extreme silliness!

I have been burned by this so many times! It is why I have my hair in a bun.

If it's any consolation, I think it looks cute!

Sorry to hear, but I agree with Kaeeliaa - you look great.

Same issue for me, these braids were an experiment after hours of attempts with the ponytail failed due to this issue. I found I loved the braided look though, but then found even it got ruined by the portrait incompatibility...

You still look fantastic, Miss Candi!

I find it interesting that the portraits are apparently rendered twice, once in the client, and then again, completely separately, by the server. How hard would it be to just render it once, locally, and send that to the server?

Here's an interesting example. One night, while making a new portrait, I managed to get my hair to look a bit pink. I thought it was just a fortuitous trick of lighting, but apparently it was just a glitch and the server rendered it as very dull red. I was extremely disappointed.

Daww thanks Oops

Tbh I still like the overall look, so stayed with it despite it's unnecessary flaws.

Ohhh very nice. I think I remember you showing me that before(?)

Anycase yeah, it looked great and a shame the server didn't keep the appearance properly.

You seemed to have worked with it pretty well though! Kaaeliaa's always looking classy and very attractive.

But we can all look so much better CCP.

While this will never affect me, I do still agree with OP and so +1 for this.

I do feel the OP has a good point, though it may not effect me so much, I still would like my dreadlocks looking as marvelous as possible, not-to-mention, my beard Cool

While we are at it, can we get braids, ponytails and long hair for men too?

I can't be a suitably fashionable Gallente pilot without absolutely fabulous hair.

My toon has had the bald white eyed phycopath look since creation. But I agree that the portrait rendering needs to reflect the portrait creator. And I would really like to see some long beards or braided beards. I've always felt like a Space Viking trapped in a woman's body.

Giving this important issue a kick back to the front page.

Let's not allow this issue to disappear in the same way as your hair's length does because of this problem.

Instead, let it levitate to the front page, like Candi's braids.

I seem to pull it off sans hair.

Yes. Floatiness hair is silly.

Oh and while we're here, why not add more mohawks? I would pay massively for a mohawk reminiscent of a Roman helmet, or perhaps some liberty spikes. This wispy one irritates the forehead.

Sauce.

Oh what about headwear? We already have facial implants in the AUR store, why not hats, helmets, and visors?

Yes indeed! I could go for a giant, ridiculous gibus, or a Soviet-like peaked visor cap. Or a fruit hat.

Sauce.
