You just hope your partner doesn't read that, else you'll be in big trouble mate (if she's anything like mine).

Mine hates the concept of Valentine's Day.

Which suits me just fine.

Same here,
the excess of boose she brought home would seem to suggest otherwise though.

I told my platonic valentine I had a friend who was in need of a date, and asked if she knew anyone who was available.

It was a story and I just want to take out two girls tonight. Might as well, when it's just going through the retail motions.

they're 21. I'm 32. call me a dirty old man it only makes it harder.

On its own, love fails because it's not quantified into more concrete ideas. Things like commitment and dedication, and devotion. Love is a rather vague ideal, and as far as roadmaps go it's pretty shoddy over the course of years, decades.

Companionship is paradoxically better executed by realists, and even pessimists, than idealists.

So I don't know, but hopefully as people mature and get smarter, they stop believing in love, and start thinking with their head.

I'd like to share a story to help people relate to my point. Recently one of my close pals was dumped by a total stunner, blonde, educated... because he wasn't agreeable to her suggestion of finding a house together. Granted, she is unattached and has a bright future, but that was the first time I ever knew a woman who pushed for progress in such a practical way. Inspiring, really. But my point is, she is a case of someone who enjoys affection, but does a fair bit of clear headed planning to make sure it is a good thing for her life.

I'd like to think it's a combination that makes the winning factor.

Love can bring and keep people together. But what kind of a ride it is along the way often depends how much they use their heads. It can depend on the context of love also I think. For instance the love for your kids can force you to do ridiculous things to support and provide for them. Doing the right thing like that though is using your head for love.
