How do I scan down a worm whole?

I wonder how me and others ever found wormholes without stirring up the forums or watching tons of youtube coverage. There is a tutorial to probing. Do it. Experment with the formations and sphere sizes.

Yes but it might seem unkind to point it out.

Here is the copy of a small post I did on reddit :

First of all, you should use the "pinpoint" formation almost everytime. It is almost impossible to scan several signature at the same time so you want to scan them one by one. The pinpoint formation is almost the best volume you can use for signal strength.

I'll try to put some pictures to explain how I am doing it. I am also using a Core Probe Launcher I with 8 Core Scanner Probe 1. After simply launching my probes and going to the solar system view, I can see something like that :

This is the default view. There are currently 4 signature and I choose to scan the TMZ-130 one. Clicking on it in the probe window will show a single red sphere :

I will now click on the pinpoint formation button :

As you can see, the probes spheres are much more compact and near each other. However we are not at all near the red sphere. I'll use the arrow on the single cube **(without using shift or alt)** to move the cube in the center of the red sphere :

*Tip : Double clicking on the box or on an arrow will center the camera on it, allowing an easier rotation to see what you are doing*

The sphere means that the exact position of the signature is somewhere in this sphere. As you can see my blue volume (the area scanned) is smaller than the red sphere. By clicking on the blue area and dragging outward, I can expend the area scanned down (in blue).

Now the red sphere is completely covered by the probes's area, we can click the scan button. After rescanning all the signatures will be shown so be sure to select in the probe window the same anomaly again (TMZ in our case) :

We have now a red dot, which is much better ! We narrowed down the position of the signature to this dot. However it is possible there is still some deviation occuring. First of all, we will move all the probes (using the single box, again) to the exact position of the red dot :

We will also reduce the range of all the probes. Using a greater range allow us to be ready for a huge deviation, but the signal strength will be too small. When I have a red dot I like to be at 2 AU or 4AU. Simply drag the blue volume inward to reduce the range of all probes at the same time.

Let's hit the scan button now :

And we have here ... nothing ! It means that the deviation is greater than the range of our probe. I was at 2 before, let's use 4 now

http://i.imgur.com/RwGz4B6.png

We found an other red dot, quite away of our initial position. The deviation is still important. Let's move again all the probe (using the single box) on this new position and scan again. Since we already got a huge deviation once, I feel lucky and believe I won't have a second deviation this big. So I try with a range of 2 AU again :

Great, we have now a yellow triangle. This means that the correct position is really close to the one displayed at the moment. I'll center the probe on position and reduce the range to 0.5 AU. I always use the arrows to move my box and stay on a plane rather than clicking on the cube and dragging it, which is less precise in my opinion.

And voilĂ , you finally got your signature scanned down !

You can note that the exact location is a bit off of our probe center. Once again, some deviation is at work :)

Using this method should help you scanning 90% of the sites. Some are harder to find and you will need for them better items (Sister's Core Probe launcher is OP but expansive), better skills or even rigs or an array (like I had on my ship for this demo).

I am able to scan down sites in a WH without any skill on an alt. It is just a matter of practice. Keep it up and you will do it. Just remember that it's always easier to use the pinpoint formation and always easier to move all the probes at the same time using the centered cube.

Please tell me if it helped :)

Edit : Got it before the downtime \o/

Thx so much for this info I c what I was doing wrong lol and thx for giving me pointers on worm wholes I really appreciate the help
