What exactly changed about probing lately?

I can't seem to scan anything down anymore.

I dabbled in exploration a bit a few months ago, and decided to try it some more. I was fairly good at probing down sites back then, but right now I can't seem to get more an a 20% hit on anything.

I have decent probing skills (scan probe strength 88, Astrometrics 5, Astrometric rangefinding 4, astrometric pinpointing 3). I usually work with 6 probes in an octahedral pattern. I can usually get hit on things with probe ranges from 32 AU to 4 AU, but when I lower the range further, the sites just seem to disappear.

And right now, I have something weird going on. With 6 probes out, I got a 20% hit on a site. I tried deactivating some probes and found that I could deactivate 2 and still get a 20% hit. I moved the previously-deactivated probes closer to the site and lowered their range. Scanning with all six probes again, I could not get a hit on the site at all!? After deactivating the two probes, the site appeared again.

What's going on here?

Can somebody enlighten me?

Check the filter settings. There is a new filter for site types since Crucible and it's disabled by default.

You need to update your filters. The patch introduced filters for different classes of sigs and they are all unchecked by default. If you open your filters and tell it to show all of them, you will be able to probe down sigs again.

(I've been copy-pasting that response ever since the patch, lol)

Okay, thanks you two.

I guess that explains the mysteriously vanishing sites as soon as I get closer to them with my probes - while I can't tell the type of signature, it passes the filter, but as soon as I get a good enough hit to tell if it's a mag/radar/etc. site, it gets blocked by the filter.

I have no problem probing down any site with 5 probes, so it has to be the filter problem. Good luck!
