Got an idea to get some newer players into PvP and the like..

Best thing to do imo is buy about 300 of a hull with tech 1 fittings and then roam with your buddies. You can get frigates to about 500k - 3 mil isk max and still have a decent fit.

A grand idea, and also sounds like a good deal of work for anyone involved in organizing.

I understand that this has to be an open tournament, but from what I gathered from the OP, the main idea is to get the new/PVP shy people to get more involved.

My concern is, that if prizes get too big (i saw some PLEXes being thrown in), experienced players would be tempted to sign in with alts just for the shiny. Although this is not that bad in itself, wouldnt it somewhat defeat the original purpuse? I mean there are already tours with grand prizes for the veterans, another one wouldnt hurt but if this turned into that, new/shy players might be discouraged.

Perhaps dividing the prize pool more, so that almost everyone gets something but none get too much, so as to not lure veterans to prize-grabbing?
Dont know really, im just voicing a concern and leave it to my betters to think it through.

I will however show my support by throwing a reasonable sum of ISK into the pool. Mail me ingame whenever you are set up.

I would suggest banning ECM such as jam modules and jam drones, at least in the 1v1 fights. Since one of the goals of this event is to get newbros turned onto pvp, especially solo/small gang pvp, not being able to shoot back at all would be a major turnoff for them (especially since newbros unlikely have any sensor compensation skills trained).

You may or may not want to consider some sort of limit and/or ban on remote rep modules in the 2v2 and 5v5, for much the same reasons, although I would NOT ban self-repping modules.

In other words, you want the participants to be able to at least have a chance to shoot each other and even kill each other, because that's fun! Some vets could easily show up in spider-tanked jamming frigates, never taking any damage and easily mitigating what little damage they do receive :)

Also, you may want to contact Sindel's The Angel Project and Mike Azariah's Magic School Bus to see if they'd promote the event to their newbros or maybe even donate something.

Let me know when you have the details finalized and your official event announcement posted, and I'll cross-post and promote it to the Redemption roams community :)

That is a good idea, ill put that into the rules, should that just be ECM? Or should it include Tracking Disrupters and that? Because then that means Caldari will be at a disadvantage (They only get bonus to ECM).. And yes, RR would not be allowed, kinda unfair if its against new players and they can't understand why nothing is dying.. Self Rep is okay though, since even a day 1 Capsuleer has those skills (Given to you in tutorial.

-someone managing the contestants and issuing bookmarks and starting locations via fleet chat
-someone running the stream on grid at the fighting location
-Challonge operator / score keeper
-commentator(s)


That would be ideal! I would love to give every player a prize, but as I've stated already until i know how much support i will have behind me then i can't say the prizes will be that grand, as i can only calculate what i actually have into the equation. And i was thinking of hosting it in a starter system to be honest.. Higher Sec status means faster CONCORD so gankers less of a worry, as after the first Gank happens CONCORD will be on grid for a while, so yeah.. Low Sec/boarder zones would be a good idea too.. Ill look into that when planing locations :) thank you!

It will be dual for 1vs1, and the jetcan idea was my best idea to get a group able to shot each other.. It is the only way i am aware of that works other then making a Corp for each side, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I will try and find some people interested in helping out on the admin side of things then, i knew from the start it was going to be a big under taking..

I don't have many buddies in this game yet.. No one is social enough.. Hence why i want to do this tournament, get large groups of people together which hopefully leads to more and better things! :D

Thanks for the reply though, a big noob roam though was on the agenda too, give out awards for biggest kill and most kills and stuff :D so thank you for bring that up!

Well that was my original idea, hence to smaller (to older players at least) prize amounts, but i could run a more veteran based tournament as well.. Would be unfair if a tier 1 PvP'er makes an alt and has all his knowledge, even without skill knowledge makes a lot of compensation for it.. I will have to look into that..

If i had the funds i could easily give prizes to everyone, but onto of supplying ships and that it is a little strained.. I would like to though, maybe a T2 Frigate as @Rain6637 says for all participants with T2 Cruisers for winners or something.. I don't know, this is my first time with anything like this, so i still am not sure what would be best.. Hence why i am looking for suggestions, so thank you :D I will contact you in game when i know more and when i develop the rules a little more :) thank you so much for your input and support!

A separate high stakes bittervet division would need ramps and extra walkers and wheelchairs.
And a lawn to tell the kids to get off of.

We banned ECM in our 1v1 tournament on the grounds that it's no fun in a 1v1, but we allowed all other EWar.

We also mandated that every ship needed to fit an online point, even if they didn't use it, just to encourage viable PVP fits. I made an "arena" which had a number of onlined cans at 100km apart from one another. This made it so that on-grid warping was a viable strategy and points became useful even though warping off grid counted as a DQ.

That is an awesome idea! I was going to do it with an MTU's around.. But Containers would work better for that.. As for the Warp Points, that is an amazing idea! I wouldn't of considered it, i wouldn't use it in the Rookie Ships i don't think, because they don't have range so great so warping 150km away just means some ass of a player can just warp around.. Though in the Frigate stuff i think your idea would be great! :D

I don't see myself engaging in PVP until they do something about off grid boosting. To me this is a cheap form of cheating. Love to try it out in the future but not until boosting is addressed.

Umm.. What? There would be no boosters.. I have already worked out a way to stop it.. Not that hard really.. But yeah, there would be no off grid/on grid boosters. It will just be your ship, i mean sure, if your team leader who is involved in the combat has Leadership Skills up, then yeah, enjoy your 2-10% Targeting speed boost, but there is no Frigates to my knowledge that can fit a booster.. So yeah

Sorry. I wasn't referring to your thread but in general reference as to why I don't pvp often. Love your idea though but don't they have RVB for this?

Oh okay.. Well yeah, i will not be allowing boosters, and to my knowledge i don't know.. I'm only new at this game and wanted to do something to get lots of players together and having fun.

Require all contestants to be in fleet, and manage all fleet leadership positions. Our tournament used full-strength perfect command ship boosters, all categories, so there was no question or benefit to using personal boosters.

I can provide one of these boosters, if you're looking for players who can help with that. He is a high sec neutral. He can do any Command Ship, so if you find someone else who is perfectly skilled in a Command Ship and has the navy mindlink for a dual-category, 6-link setup, I can switch over to the other one.

Would the boosters help the fun? Like help them live longer, ect.? I will ask around for someone who is high skilled/perfect skilled for leadership and see if that is a possibility, thanks for that idea! :D

Oh okay, i was thinking of just getting a person i trust in each fleet as a referee of sorts.. And he would be set as booster (People with no Leadership SP.. But maybe i didnt grasp the mechanics right..)

I want it to be as fair as possible, so i guess ill do my research on this too work out the pros and cons :)

If you make the fleet tree invalid (a red X instead of a green ✓), no one gets boosts, and that's that.
