hey everyone,
since you are all here to talk about the character creator I wanted to ask you a few questionsSmile.

  • When you go through the character creator, is there anything that you find confusing or unclear and could be improved?
  • Did you all notice the "tucking" options, that you can randomize the whole character (and each group), and toggle the clothes off?
  • Now we have only facial tattoos... would body tattoos be something you would be interested in (and then how interested), even though you cannot see them in the portrait?
  • A few people have asked for normal glasses... would that be something you would be interested in?
  • Did anyone have problems with the body modifications, and if so, what did you have problems with?
  • Are there any small usability issues that bothering you in the character creator?
  • Do you think players in general would be in favor of allowing bloodline changes, or are there just a few souls that are unhappy with their heritage?
  • Any more suggestions? (other than "hey, we want more racial clothing" and "hey, we want no clothing restrictions").

(I've been looking at the character creator for so long that it makes perfect sense to meP, but it would be great to get some input from you guys... and these are just questions, not promises that everything you suggest will be doneLol)

I don't know about anyone else, but for me the problem with the character creator is the art, not the tech. Tech is actually pretty slick. Art is drab and bland. The fun eccentric art style (with weird hair styles with interesting accessories a la the amarr princess, non-dreadlock long hair, clothing styles that make EVE stand out for its' art style instead of just being another "bleh" tin can art style.) And please, for the love of jeebus, don't try to charge us extra, making us pay for what we once had for free.

Blood line changes aren't needed as long as the art style stop sucking.

Also, reporting as a help chat regular, every single time new AUR is given away there are ALWAYS a bunch of noobs asking "how I equip monokel!" My guess is they are doing it in the mirror instead of in the station services button, but I wouldn't know having never bothered clicking on either since the big disappointment in the good art being removed.

Also, not CC related exactly, but it's annoying to have to manually turn off portraits showing in chats. It makes life so much better with it off, but was even better when it would only load the portraits you care about, and leave those jackass douchebags you don't care about as silhouettes.

Maxim 6. If violence wasn’t your last resort, you failed to resort to enough of it.

  • When you go through the character creator, is there anything that you find confusing or unclear and could be improved?
  • Its fairly intuitive

  • Did you all notice the "tucking" options, that you can randomize the whole character (and each group), and toggle the clothes off?

  • The randomize and clothes toggling yes. I didn't see the tucking option until someone pointed it out to me months later after creating several characters.

  • Now we have only facial tattoos... would body tattoos be something you would be interested in (and then how interested), even though you cannot see them in the portrait?

  • Yes, we would. Now that we have captain's quarters and the full body portrait viewer its nice to be able to add customize more than just the face. I'ld like tatoos that also go all the way down the neck.

  • A few people have asked for normal glasses... would that be something you would be interested in?
  • Naw... its the future! Who has glasses in the future? Lasix in the 21st century, but not in the 31st century? (or synthetic eyes even)

  • Did anyone have problems with the body modifications, and if so, what did you have problems with?
  • I wish I could make body modifications after the fact (in the recustomization menu). Sometimes I want to trim down or bulk up my characters after the fact.

  • Are there any small usability issues that bothering you in the character creator?
  • Only the one I just mentioned above.

  • Do you think players in general would be in favor of allowing bloodline changes, or are there just a few souls that are unhappy with their heritage?
  • I'm not sure how many people really even notice the blood lines except... I even forgot which I am and I've had this character for years... I'ld like to hear a little video about each bloodline when selecting them (just like the races video) to remind us now and again.

  • Any more suggestions? (other than "hey, we want more racial clothing" and "hey, we want no clothing restrictions").
  • 1. The first is the one that I mentioned above about the body modifications during recustomizations
    2. How about height options?
    3. It would be nice if a little more "aging" variation was apparent on some bloodlines. I can take a Caldari woman to max age and she looks like a 20 year old still. And the opposite is true for the Amarrians. You can make an Amarrian as young as possible and he still looks like a geezer.
    4. It would be nice to have a few more variations in skin tone. Some of these guys look like they're never seen the sun even at max tanned
    5. In general, the more options the better.

    • The photo thingy, or rather the preview. It needs two things, first of all anti-aliasing on the preview and second more preview sizes. ( http://piclair.com/data/tjmxx.jpg ). Choosing hair-colors for some of the hairstyles is wonky since only one of the two color palettes are used (some, not all). Either make both matter or remove the useless one.
    • Yes. Tucking options took a while and could be a few pixels larger but it does not matter at all so...
    • No reason until you do something useful with the full body avatars. Mostly concerned what can actually be seen in chat windows etc.
    • Does not make sense, if we can put in brain implants and do genetic manipulation I'm fairly sure that bad eyesight has been taken care of many many years ago. Please, don't add. Wouldn't stand seeing everyone wearing hipster glasses, the pilot sunglasses are bad enough since they are very un-eve.
    • Could use a better selection system tbh, having 100 piercings (or how many we have) in that small selection window is annoying. Same with the hairstyles but to a lesser extent.
    • The panel selection thingy is a bit inconsistent at times and difficult to "manouver" with it scrolling around oddly at times. Don't know how to describte it really...
    • God no. Why? The only ones I've seen whine about bloodline change are the vherikor (or whatever they are called) and perhearps they could use some tuning but no reason to do blood line changes. Small vocal minority...
    • More hairstyles and stuff we used to have in the old one. And no I'm not just saying that for hurfdurf, I think it could be exactly what CC needs to be really good instead of just "newer but worse than the old one". Most female hairstyles are meh and only a handfull are even remotely good looking.

Just my .02€ and finally, the models themselfs look weak and are often far away from the vision I and many others have of what eve design and looks should be. Reading in an interview that they are the exact models used in WoD with "some features disabled" was kinda sad. I love EVEs original art direction and now it's kinda plastic tbh.

    Intaki got hosed big time.

All we had before incursion was long hippy art school hair.

you should give that back to all intaki men. No short hair, no bald intaki. All long flowing locks, samurai buns and other variations of long hippy hair.

    Why Can't I have a picture signature.

Also please support graphical immersion, bring back the art that brought people to EvE online originaly.

    - I like the general character creator interface. At first it was a bit confusing that some options only exist in the general editor (molding), and some only in the portrait one, but that became apparently quickly enough. Not sure that's worth fixing in any way. Maybe add some kind of help text or something?

    - Body tattoos would be awesome, except the full-body view is pretty much never used. (Also, see below)

    - Does "too few tattoo options" count? Minmatar individualism and all that ...

    - It can be a bit slow to react. Which means you click, drag, nothing happens, you drag more, and then suddenly the lag stops and you changed it a lot. Not sure how to fix that.

    - Bloodline change, sex change, name change... Dunno, as a roleplayer it would bother me a bit, but not a lot, but I don't particular see the need.

    - I have two huge (but related) issues with the character editor. I seem unable to create a middle-aged person. It's very easy to get a 20-year-old, it's very easy to hit the 60s, but 30-40 seems almost impossible (I'm not the only one with the problem, I've had a number of friends complain about that). Also, the look differs a lot between the portrait and the 3D model. I am currently very happy with the portrait I have for my character, but the 3D model looks nothing at all like that. It's very frustrating.

Oh, last one: A few of the women I know have been complaining about the female models. It would be utterly painful to run around with an arched back like that, and there's no reason to do so except to push your breasts into the face of some teenagers playing a video game, and most of us are a bit beyond that age. The option to actually have a bit smaller breasts for females would be appreciated, too. Finally, having the model not insist on high heels for the foot form would be nice. ;-)

    • Not Specifically.
    • The "tucking" options weren't immediately noticeable. I don't think I would have noticed them if it was my first time in-game.
    • I don't particularly like any tattoos, but that's me.
    • Glasses? . . . We have med clones and implants, and people still can't see? LOL . . . Not for me, but maybe for others.
    • The body modifications are alright. I'd personally like to be able to tweak mine a bit, but I can't.
    • Not really.
    • A one-time bloodline change would be nice for some people, especially if a specific customization that they want is not available in their current bloodline.
    • Suggestion: I would like to be able to move the light source and change it's color. Maybe in an advanced lighting mode.

    • When you go through the character creator, is there anything that you find confusing or unclear and could be improved?

    • A lot of things are non-obvious, found only through experimentation, more help and text might be useful.

Actually tutorial videos streamed off you tube might be great. Direct link to EVE-University vids? EVE tagged youtube vids on the NeoCom in CQ?

    • Did you all notice the "tucking" options, that you can randomize the whole character (and each group), and toggle the clothes off?

    • Randomize yes. Will have to go back and look at tucking. As far as toggling the clothes off (did notice), echo the sentiment that these clothes seem drab, and unexciting, covering too much. Don't have to be nudes or anything but something that be considered party clothes would be nice, or business formal? Even the gawdawfully overpriced NEX clothes are stiff and unexciting. Mini-skirt? Shorts? Can walk the streets without a shirt or on the beach in a bikini, but for some reason can't even in my own CQ?

    • Now we have only facial tattoos... would body tattoos be something you would be interested in (and then how interested), even though you cannot see them in the portrait?

    • Not a high priority but yes, that would make a lot of sense with these cultures.

    • A few people have asked for normal glasses... would that be something you would be interested in?

    • There are not normal glasses? While sure it would be nice to represent a more bookish character, some interesting and not obviously available at your local drugstore glasses would be nice.

    • Did anyone have problems with the body modifications, and if so, what did you have problems with?

    • Not enough variation. This follows the trends of most character creators but that's one of the reasons why the dress up barbie criticism strikes home so hard. Unnaturally thin and gangly to Baron Harkonnen fat. Plz. Remember this is science fiction.

    • Are there any small usability issues that bothering you in the character creator?

    • Export? Sometimes I try out a look as a secondary character and then decide to make a new account so they can skill. (Or just get a better way to manage multiple skilling characters without additional accounts. Latter preferred)

    • Do you think players in general would be in favor of allowing bloodline changes, or are there just a few souls that are unhappy with their heritage?

    • Significant appearance changes appear to be possible in the lore, why not in the game? The Broker radically changed his appearance all the time in that first novel.

    • Any more suggestions? (other than "hey, we want more racial clothing" and "hey, we want no clothing restrictions").

    • Echo the call for more variability. And a call for the ability to not look like we just walked in from the local shopping mall. Scifi us up! Its the FUTURE!

Amarrian's are the only ones that seem to get that option. And even they could use some more.

I would like to see more FACTION clothing. The different militaries really ought to have uniforms shouldn't they? Not to mention the whole religious side of things. And they should be clearly marked. Are those outfits the Amarrians wear in the bloodline choice screen supposed to be uniforms?

More range of camera in the portrait/preview creation (I've wanted closer and farther away.)

I've not been in there in a while but as I recall (also know I am a user of poser and have some foresight into how to do this sort of thing, so my thoughts are not the average users)

-my only problem with the creator is some of the handles on the face are not obvious and it would have been better imo for some of them to not be grouped left and right.
-the eyes don't always track to a single fixed point, the left eye always seems a little off
-A randomizer is always good, for all layers
-I was a little confused by the clothing and accessories random icon and inadvertently clicked it messing up my current settings at one point. perhaps a tooltip?
-I think the facial tattoos are a little lacking in variety and racial/ethnic diversity, as it is they seem either extremely discrete or full on darth maul, as far as body tats go? meh... I'm honestly not expecting to be using it much but if you're offering to do the work, options keep some people happy.
-peircings... if we must have them (and I used to mosh back in the 80s) I'd love it if they again were not mirrored and thus more reflective of the lack of symmetry in design in eve, and also have the ability to double and sextuple up on the ears
-I'm proud of my heritage and have no interest in changing bloodlines, but I still think it should be an option for people to change theirs on a highly limited basis
-clothing meh, in a game where you rarely see yourself, its not on my radar. Usually in games where you can actually choose an appearance it gets covered up with armor anyhow, so to me its a low priority aspect of the game in general

I have always been impressed with the impact the portrait has on the eve experience, getting popped and seeing some evil bastich glowering at you with the 500 yard stare. That always stuck with me, and the new creator for all its beauty killed a little of that, its very hard to replicate now, but I still think the impact it has is just as real, just a little cheesier.
so to me the portrait is very important but the full body, not so much.

    - I've found it hard to make my characters smile either in the character editor or in the portrait taker... I generally want an air of happy-go-lucky free-spiritedness, with maybe a slight upward curve to one corner of her mouth, but it seems I only ever end up with a grotesque or a bland, blank look. And when actually walking around in station she just looks a bit peeved What? (possibly at the extreme botoxing that must have happened to make her face so rigid).

    - Bodily tats would be good but limited value until shared WiS - most people seem to use face/shoulder portraits rather than full length shots (although I assume ppl who used the full length tats would take their portraits appropriately), and I think they would be kind of indistinct on the portrait thumbnails, which is what most peoples only experience of other players is atm.

    - Yes to normal glasses - if our characters use sunglasses (when we could just as easily have dimming functions in our ocular implants) and goggles, why would we not use normal glasses? In real life I personally prefer how I look with my glasses on than I do without/wearing contacts. It comes down to just another option that if you don't like it you can ignore, if you do then you can use.

    - Bloodline changes/re-customisation: I think quite a few picked their original race based on the look they could get on their characters portraits; I know I did when I first dabbled with the game. Yes, I know, that's not the Spreadsheets In Space min/maxing way, but it happens. Given the reduced variation available, and the less extremes available being able to revisit the characters would be nice.

Quite a few people would also have done the opposite 'cos their spreadsheets told them that race/bloodline x would be most efficient for them; as someone pointed out, that's not really true any more so perhaps they would like to change.

If this was offered, make sure people who are happy with their character (as I figure most people would be) have the option of keeping everything as it is - a 'no, I'm fine, don't bother me' type option so they don't have to mess around & possibly screw up a look they are quite happy with.

I would want to use the option to make small tweaks to the character (broader shoulders/narrower waist) rather than a wholesale rebuild-from-the-ground-up. I found it took a little while of walking around to decide if I liked her or not & by that time it was too late.

    - Greater variation (weirdness/extreme sci-fi-ness possibilities) and distinctive body type possibilities between the bloodlines would be nice. The option to show augmentation implants would help solidify the sci-fi-ness of the game.

    - Offering a body shape change as a 'service' ala attribute remaps for aur/plex etc would be a good thing (for the role-players out there, given the entire functioning of the brain can be altered - cf attibute remaps - simple cosmetic changes for a new clone should be consistent as an in-game technology).

Also, individual clones at different stations could have different bodily shapes - although that would reduce the distinct nature/identity of the character & break that feeling of identification with the character that WiS is designed to accentuate. Probably better to keep the current restriction it to clothes/implants.

    • The characters face in the character customizations look very very different to the character in the CQ.
    • Most of the time it is caused by wired lighting or very sharp shadows in the CQ.
Because of that I don't like some little things on my char and would like to "correct" it.
    • It is really annoying to select clothes or the background image. It takes forever to scroll through them.
    • Do you think players in general would be in favor of allowing bloodline changes? YES for AUR
    • Any more suggestions?
    • Get more items in the Nex Store. That already on SiSi should have been on TQ with crucible.
    • I don't know why but the character recustomization and CQ loads much much longer than it did before crucible.

Personally I would like to see something more along the lines of the following:
    * Generic casual clothing = Available to all (unrestricted)
    * Engineer/Industrial/Mining etc clothing = Available to all (unrestricted) ... I hear Chribba wants a Veldspar stained outfit badly
    * Business type clothing = Available to all (unrestricted)
    * NPC Faction clothing = LP rewards (restricted) ... have your character look like they belong to the Blood Raiders for example
    * Military clothing = Gained through the LP store for FW with ranks unlocking more options (restricted)
    * Racial clothing = Requires a certain standings level for other races to be able to use them (restricted)
    * Unique Bloodline clothing = Only available to the given Bloodline (restricted)

Where someones standings fall below a certain level then the restricted clothing, accessories, etc can no longer be used.

If CCP are serious about making EVE a Sci-Fi simulator then restrictions must apply and would give clothing, accesories, etc some meaning.

The following is a conversation I had in another thread regarding why certain clothing should remain restricted.

And now you have hit the nail on the head as to one of the reasons why I advocate that the clothing items that are more race specific (Amarr robe as one example) should be tied to standings, give clothing some meaning. I understand completely your point about RP'ing as an Ammatar, the only problem is that the multitude of EVE players will wear those items simply because of how they look. And that for me and I'm sure others is immersion breaking.

Oh, you want to talk about immersion-breaking. You know what's immersion-breaking? The Caldari, as a hypercapitalist society are willing to let me buy, build and fly their warships and high-end electronic equipment, but I can't buy their flight jackets and combat trousers.

    No.

So you mean like how the U.S. has sold weapons to other countries that now may or may not be opposed to them. Yet I don't see any of those countries troops wearing American uniforms.

Or where countries have even used captured weapon tech against an enemy. Still didn't see them wearing the enemies uniforms unless they were spies.

History is filled with instances where weapon tech has been traded between countries or used directly against them, but the one contant is that each individual country has always had their own identity when it came to uniforms.

Even casual wear is questionable to a certain extent. Did Russians at the height of the cold war wear the latest American fashions, well maybe if they liked Syberia they did.

You don't think it would raise an eyebrow if an Amarrian was suddenly sporting the latest Gallente fashion whilst in an Amarr station. They would be getting investigated as a suspected Gallente sympathizer.

Your idea of immersion goes against everything we have seen in our own history.

Also, it'd be awesome to get my face mask back, how can I strike fear into the hearts of pod pilots with this guy to the left? :(

Hats. We need hats. I cannot begin to stress how important this is.

    Hi CCP karkur!

    • When you go through the character creator, is there anything that you find confusing or unclear and could be improved?
    • Overall the character generator isn't confusing.

    • Did you all notice the "tucking" options, that you can randomize the whole character (and each group), and toggle the clothes off?
    • Hm, I think I have noticed them but never used them. Not sure Big smile

    • Now we have only facial tattoos... would body tattoos be something you would be interested in (and then how interested), even though you cannot see them in the portrait?
    • Hey, Im playing a minmatar. Tattoos are very important to me. Some time ago there was a chronicle about minmatar tattoos. They are an integral part of their culture and are even used as some kind of rank insignia and such. I would say we really need body tattoos and some clothes that can emphesize them. And hopefully we will get soon multiplayer enviroments where we can show them of, please? Smile
Oh, and of course body scars!

    • A few people have asked for normal glasses... would that be something you would be interested in?
    • Sure, why not? Even if they are not that sci-fi, but anything that adds to the diversity is good.

    • Did anyone have problems with the body modifications, and if so, what did you have problems with?
    • No problems with them so far.

    • Are there any small usability issues that bothering you in the character creator?
    • I think the usability is good.

    • Do you think players in general would be in favor of allowing bloodline changes, or are there just a few souls that are unhappy with their heritage?
    • There seem to be a lot of people who are not happy how their bloodline turned out after the new character generator and I can understand them. Even some who don't like the gender they have chosen with the new looks. There should be a way to help them, either by petitions or some new mechanics. Would also be a good option to make the NeX store actually helpful.

    • Any more suggestions? (other than "hey, we want more racial clothing" and "hey, we want no clothing restrictions").
Obviously we need more of everything (especially haircuts) Big smile. I would also like some more lighting options, maybe being able to choose the source of the lighting manually instead of the pre-defined options. Some more lighting colors wouldn't harm too.
Some other props like some kind of implants, masks, headsets, helmets, cigarettes and so on would be cool.

Thanks for listening to us Smile!

(I've been looking at the character creator for so long that it makes perfect sense to meP, but it would be great to get some input from you guys... and these are just questions, not promises that everything you suggest will be doneLol)

    yeah nice dodge

I like the new character models very very much, though they certainly kill my computer.
But still I agree the old creator had WAY more variety. Im pretty satisfied with the new avatars I managed to create but I still somehow miss my old ones, they were just more distinct and special overall.

So please, spaceships is fun and nice, but WiS and the character creator is THE ONE THING in Eve with the most potential. And right now its just unfinished business.

The only thing I'd say about it is ...

I wish the damned model would just look where I want them to look and stop those annoying eye twitches. I know it makes them look more realistic and everything but I want them to look right at the camera and the second you move the eye into the right position and go to take a picture of it. They twitch their eye to the side a bit and it is so annoying. That and blinking. Why would I want a picture of someone sleeping? Do they have to blink and eye twitch while I'm trying to take a picture of them?

Also it can be a little hard to get the lights on the face just how you want them. I often move their head around and face their body in different directions just to get the light to go on their face just how I want it. If there was a way to manually change the position of the lights myself, it would be great.

All in all, I do think they look great. I did like some of those unusual (glassy) head dress things from the old one. I assume it would be hard to reproduce them in the new creator. Somewhere down the line it would be good to have them back again.

Edit: Giving a character a hood while having long hair makes it have hair go through the hood. While it's a neat trick, probably is very hard to do irl.
