Hi,

In recent weeks my Anti Virus has been taking longer and longer to scan my machine, for no apparent reason.

When I investigated the cause of this slow down I discovered that there are 151,141 images, within 100 folders being stored at c:\*username*\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility\cache\Pictures\Characters\Chat and then the folders are number 0 thorough 99.

The naming convention on most of the images ends either _32.jpg or _64.jpg which is obviously a reference to whether they are 32 bit or 64 bit images

Does anybody know if these images serve a purpose or can they be deleted ?

It's EVE's cache. You can clear it by going to Settings -> Reset Settings -> click the "Clear Cache Files" button. Do this from a safe place as you'll need to restart the client after.

The images are character portraits in the member lists. Deleting the cache will make you redownload them again, but it doesn't impact the game that much.
