Skill point remap feature request.

Hi to whom it may concern,

I'm not sure if this skill point (SP) remap feature has ever been requested or thought of, but I've noticed a rather large proportion of new/scrub players asking for advice on skill plans etc with regard to their initial career path. Sure there are 3rd party tools like EvE Mon / EvE HQ that can help, (but most new players are unaware of such 3rd party apps), but my request relates to when you've trained certain skills but then you get bored (mining/planetary interaction/hacking) or decide to change your career path, missiles/gunnery, or you join a PvP corp with specific training requests, but you kind of feel guilty in that you've trained all those skills which you now know you're unlikely to need anymore.

Hence my idea is, can we remap those skill points into new skills for a new career path? The frequency that a player can do this is like a yearly neural remap, I think this functionality already exists since I remember when 'learning skills' were removed and we could reallocate the amount of SP we'd already learned.

I just think with such a feature it would still encourage new (even the veteran) players to try out different aspects of the game knowing that if they change their mind later on, all those skill points invested won't go to waste because they could allocate them when their next remap can take place.

Was just a thought which I think would be very useful.

Oh lord. This again.

No. And if you'd like an elaboration on that, use the search function.

I actually think it would be a good idea to get the oppertunity to remap SP. Be it once every year or something you have to buy. Like a re-sculp. Maybe only once per char.

tbh a SP remap would have to be a One time only deal, and within the first year only.
otherwise, no bloody way.

skill choices are meant to have consiquences afterall.

Please do at least some homework. This has been suggested literally scores of times and been shot down each and every time.

So no.

NO posts. My favorite.

Dane, allowing characters to move SP between skills means you can stop actively training a character at 30-50 million SP, and be fully skilled in one ship, no-notice. A a kung-fu ninja capable of any one task, and with perfect skills. It's too much versatility. It's possible to have a character capable of anything under the sun, but those take eight or nine years.

And that's at the very core of EVE's identity among games.

Training rate and the attribute system would also break as a result of SP reassignment. I'm not saying skill attributes are good, or that they should be preserved (I have no opinion on the matter). But. If you earn SP in optimal attributes, and then apply those SP to off-attribute skills (Leadership, and Drones skills, for example), you circumvent the attribute system in addition to SP accumulation.

There would be no need to train awkward attribute skills directly.

There are also edge cases where CCP gives players additional SP as a result of changes, similar to how stock is split and increased number. This SP could be applied to something completely different, which is unpredictable from a game development standpoint. Some of those changes are even announced ahead of time. When you know a change is coming, you can train the involved skills in optimal attributes and have that SP compounded.

I didn't see the quoted comment personally, but someone mentioned a CCP dev statement that unallocated SP is one of the most overpowered things in the game. With SP reassignment, all of your SP would effectively be a pool of unallocated of SP.

The good news is many skills apply to all ships, in a lot of cases. Skill categories like Navigation, Engineering, Shields, Armor, and Drones, for example, follow you from a mining barge to a battleship.

Lastly, because the skill system is the same for everyone, it's not necessarily good or bad. It is equal.

Skill attributes are a pain point for a lot of players, and I say I don't have an opinion because it's the same for everyone. Like SP accumulation, it's discomfort we all have to endure. I could make strong cases for both keeping and removing them.

Only if this skillpoint remap feature costs half of ones current skillpoints.

If a Miner with 100 million skillpoints sacrifices 50 million skillpoints to become a PvPer this is a small price to pay, truly;
if a PvPer with 100 million skillpoints sacrifices 50 million skillpoints to become a Miner this is a fitting punishment.

Otherwise, no.
