POS ECM

Hi all,

Information I have found about this subject does not seem to answer the 1 question I have.

I am aware that POS guns will not activate unless they have line of sight to the target (and, as far as I am aware, should the target subsequently be occluded by the shield, they will not do any damage through the POS shield to the target ship?).

Do ECM/Neutraliser/Scrambler/Web batteries work in the same way, or will they activate on hostile ships regardless of relative positioning between them, the hostile and the shield?

Thanks.

I think you can be shot if you are on the other side of POS bubble as long as you are out of the shields and guns have range on you. Same goes with ECM and all other offensive mods.
When did they change that the guns can't shoot you on the other side of the POS? (link?)

Guns aim from the tower, period.

When auto-targeting, POS defenses are only limited by their activation range, optimal, and falloff.
Example: ECM has a 300 km activation range, 200 km optimal and a 100 km falloff.

When manually targeting, the activation distance doesn't apply; anything on grid can be targeted.

Range is measured from the tower for turrets & missiles, and from the module for everything else.

Useless modules:
* All missile batteries (they tickle).
* Hybrid blaster batteries (don't have the range to hit anything).
* Hybrid railguns (horrible tracking and very low damage compared to even un-bonused projectiles).

So, just to be absolutely clear, for the purposes of EWAR and other offensive POS structures the shield has no impact at all upon targeting, damage or EWAR projection?

i.e. It may as well not be there.

That is correct. There are no line-of-sight calculations in EvE as the amount of server strain they would generate would be obscene. If a POS shield is between you and an offensive POS module, it will still "hit" you pending the checks on range, tracking, etc.

Thank you.

Is that the same for player weaponry?

There is no line of sight anywhere in Eve.

Why do people bother to spread their structures evenly all over a POS? Seems like a waste of time if it makes no difference :/

Because player guns, missiles and drones don't have unlimited range.

Because it's hard to get high transversal against turrets spread over a large area.

To make it harder to attack.

Grouped structures are easier to attack if they are all in optimal, as opposed having to move around.

Grouped structures are susceptible to smartbombing.

Really the only modules that must be spread out are short range ones, like warp scramblers.

Lastly: OCD. If you saw my POSes, you'd understand this illness.

Once again: Guns track from the tower, period.
