Another year older, no wiser.

If you have little or no experience in PVP, I'd love you to celebrate me growing older by going out and fighting dirty in game.

I'm offering a billion ISK in prizes for new players that pick fights and create interesting stories. Win, lose or stalemate, you can learn something from every fight. Individual prizes will be fairly small but will add up to a billion ISK.

This event is running from the time of this post, up until downtime on Sunday (15-Feb).

Pick a fight with someone via any means you see fit. Starship combat, market scams - anything is good.

Gank someone in an icebelt.
Shoot a corp member that isn't expecting it.
Offer an 'honorable duel at the sun' and honor it.
Offer an 'honorable duel at the sun' and turn up with neutral logi and suicide ECM.
Trick someone into jumping through a wormhole, and shoot them on the other side.
Trick someone into going suspect in your mission, then shoot them.
Trick someone into buying a rubbish item with a sneakily-worded contract.
Shoot an Epithal and steal someone's PI materials.

How you pick a fight is up to you. Win, lose, or stalemate, post in this thread with what you learned, what you lost, what you gained and what you destroyed.

The most interesting lessons will receive a prize of between 50 and 500 million ISK, and prizes will total 1b (my decisions on prizes are final). Whether you win the fight or not will not enter into the equation. Don't be afraid to lose (just make sure you only lose things you can afford to lose).

Prizes are only intended for people who are fairly new to PVP. If you've been a long term active member of a PVP focused corp or alliance, or have a hundred kills on your killboard, this isn't for you (that's why individual prizes will be fairly small).

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

I hope the newbros can still find this. Ugh

Perhaps I will seek out some bright-eyed friends and assist them in forming an entry. Big smile

Well, since no one else has shared a story, I'll throw ya one. I don't know whether I qualify as a new player still or not (1 year old in 6 days! Woo hoo!) but my pvp experience is definitely limited as I spend most of my time running exploration sites and mining. I've gotten my feet wet in it, but mostly just enough to know I've got a long way to go on that front. I have learned that POCO's are really easy to shoot though....so there is that. Oh, and this story doesn't actually involve shooting someone, but that's not for lack of trying.

Anyhoo, for the past few months I've been living in a wormhole. Two days ago, I was poking around in a C3 that had opened up in our hole and finding very little activity. A couple of offline towers, lots of un-run sites, perfectly unspectacular in every way. I scanned all the sites that needed to be scannitized, finding several gas sites, a couple other wormholes, and four nullsec relic sites. Woo hoo, relic sites! I immediately start working on them, and clear out the first three in short order managing to only destroy a few of the cans.

I hop over to the fourth and make my way to the first can. Whilst I busily clicking away and killing that damn spikey healer thing (seriously, f**k that thing) my overview lights up with a ship appearing. A Helios had appeared at the site on the other side from me. Must have been cloaked. I was dumbfounded that he would show up in the site when there was already another ship there, but hey, ballsy. I decided then was as good a time as any to see if I could catch and kill something, so I bounced back to my hole to reship into something with guns. After weighing my options, I went with my newest purchase: a Stratios fitted in a way recommended by a corp mate for catching and killing small things. I get back into the C3, cloak up, and check d-scan. Sure enough, the Heli was still there.

I jump back to the site and immediately curse myself for not bookmarking something closer to the cans. I slow boat my way over, staying cloaked, and get within point range. I keep him in range as he moves to the final can, and I wait a few seconds to make sure that he's well into the minigame before I decloaked. As soon as I did, I punched my sensor booster and start counting. When I thought the targeting timer was gone, I tried to target him and got the "You can't do that yet, ya dumbass" message. And that's when he warped away. I chased after him, but couldn't ever track him down again and had to go back home, empty handed. Ah well.

Good job to him for getting out and hopefully I'll have better luck next time.

Lessons learned:

1. Need to work on my timing and muscle memory for hotkeys.
2. May want to rethink that ship choice. An interceptor or an interdictor might have been able to catch him easier, but without the advantage of a cloak. A bomber wouldn't have had the targeting timer, and I could have gotten a corp mate to come blap him.
3. Make a bookmark close to the cans in relic sites because apparently you never know.
4. The Stratios looks nice and all, but if he'd had friends of his own to come get me, I would have been toast, and in hindsight that would be a good bait tactic. Let's not use that one until we've got some better cruiser skills, ok Ned?

In any event, hope you liked the story.
