I like the new avatars, but have to admit that I wish some options were still available.

Adakis doesn't look nearly as crazy as he used to.

THAT is wickedly cool!!!

That picture is supposed to be a holographic representation of that particular pilot, how he chose to represent himself to others. The pilot in that chronicle is still in a pod and probably looks very human.

However it is indeed very cool, and I would love to have more options to make some truly alien characters... but then if walking in stations ever gets multiplayer then making avatars like pictured above would have to be a separate image from your character.

Personally I just wish there was a lot more cyber punk stuff... I also the miss the Fifth Element inspired design of the Gallente, because seriously that film is 90 percent Gallente and 10 percent Minmatar.

would that not be more what a sansha moded pod guy would look like? i here they look a lot like the borg from that one show

All automated intel should be removed from the game including Instant local/jumps/kills/cynos for all systems/regions.Eve should report nothing like this to the client/3rd party software.Intel should not be force fed to players. Player skill and iniative should be the sources of intel.

i wanted a bloodline change for a long time, so i could try and get back my orig 'look,' but now i gotta admit that the 'grace-park-clone' look has kinda stuck, haha! Roll

I like the new character creator a great deal, but I do miss the unique accents like the Amarr collars: http://forum.nibbletek.co.uk/portrait_viewer.php?character=Danica%20Kaliinen

Also, bring back the plunging neck lines, like in Shaera's old portrait (implied).

The problem with CCP adding anything that would be racial and blood line distinctive would be the complaints of "How come I can't get that?" followed with "CCP should give everyone free racial and blood line changes!"

character creator needs more stuff. every attire sucks or lack of.

EVE has once again lost some sort of defining element by introducing something NEW that lacked completely everything.

By the way, the EVE concept art of the races was way cooler than the current CC grants us. This was a big disappoint missing key race features.

I'm starting to wonder why CCP loves shooting themselves in the foot over and over again.

Or sell them like we've been asking for years. One plex seems fair.

I usally write one of these and then change it a month later when I reread it and decide it sounds stupid.

I am one of those guys that takes a lot of time developing my character in any character creator. I must have literally spent more than 20 hours total fiddling with the old character generator. With that established...

The new character creator is awesome.

While the distinct look of EVE's bloodlines have blended together, the other character generator went too far to the other extreme. It was impossible to get a Sebiestior to look like anything but a crack dealer. The built-in "cartoon" features straightjacketed your options as far as personality.

Some of the new portraits I see aren't what I'd call a "capsuleer" portrait, more like a 19 year old, aviator-wearing "bad girl" or some 21 y.o. bald U.S. Marine recruit with a tight black t-shirt, cargo pants and 6 pack abs, but I'm still amazed that people can't create something truly inhuman and/or immersion breaking even with all this freedom CCP has given us in this new creator.

Racial accessories and clothing would make this new creator perfect imo. People don't give CCP enough credit, the tendency is to be overly critical, but you have to realize, giving the internet creative/artistic freedom over anything and getting results that aren't gag-inducing is an achievement in and of itself.

As for the Blade Runner comments, that movie's influence has only made EVE more kickass. Resease WIS so I can eat noodles in Minmatar stations. That movie is awesome and may or may not have inspired the color of my hair. Cool

You guys are crazy! The old character creator has distinctive features for each blood line because you were locked into it. Every Civire male looked the same and I could instantly tell they were one in local. Yeah I have a harder time recognizing one now but the distinct features are more subtle. I also can't tell a Korean from a Japanese person IRL or a Ukrainian from a Russian IRL. The new character creator is more like RL and is the best one I have ever used.

But it COULD use more racial accessories. I agree there

hey everyone,
since you are all here to talk about the character creator I wanted to ask you a few questionsSmile.

  • When you go through the character creator, is there anything that you find confusing or unclear and could be improved?
  • Did you all notice the "tucking" options, that you can randomize the whole character (and each group), and toggle the clothes off?
  • Now we have only facial tattoos... would body tattoos be something you would be interested in (and then how interested), even though you cannot see them in the portrait?
  • A few people have asked for normal glasses... would that be something you would be interested in?
  • Did anyone have problems with the body modifications, and if so, what did you have problems with?
  • Are there any small usability issues that bothering you in the character creator?
  • Do you think players in general would be in favor of allowing bloodline changes, or are there just a few souls that are unhappy with their heritage?
  • Any more suggestions? (other than "hey, we want more racial clothing" and "hey, we want no clothing restrictions").

(I've been looking at the character creator for so long that it makes perfect sense to meP, but it would be great to get some input from you guys... and these are just questions, not promises that everything you suggest will be doneLol)

- Having an option to only randomize the face or body (not clothes) would be nice.
- It was very tedious to revert my changes, because the "timeline" bar with the ticks on it doesn't have any markings on it, which means it's impossible to tell where you are in the timeline when scrolling it around.
- Please make an easier way to scroll through the panels, not just the "click-hold-push left or right" method. The arrow keys or scroll buttons would be useful here, or maybe right-clicking on a panel would bring it to the front.
- The panels are just too hard to navigate through and compare. An option to expand to see them all in thumbnail form would be great for comparing options. I had to keep in my head the options I was deciding between. "Okay, it's between the, third hairstyle I think, and the second-to-last."
- Scarring is too hard to see in the panels. I don't know if there's much you can do about this though.
- Some panels are confusing, because you can't see what part of your character you are modifying. For example, the feature where you can change the color of the skin around your eye, took me a while to figure out. Was labeled as "eye color" or something, and I didn't know what it was doing to my character. Perhaps highlighting or outlining the affected area in blue.

EDIT: No I did not notice the tucking options, I only knew I could do a full randomize on my character.

SECOND EDIT: If by normal glasses you mean glasses for your eyesight, no I don't think I would like that implementation. In a world of cybernetic implants (like, um, ocular filters) I would think the problem of nearsightedness has been solved, especially in the capsuleer community, who are cloned back to life. Seeing portraits with eyeglasses would look a bit odd to me. Smile

Sorry if my memory of the creator is a bit hazy, you might already have some of these implemented. Big smile

  • It's often a bit wierd due to the fact that it's pulls a lot more cpu/gpu power from your machine. So if you're not on a topnotch machine or tweaked you settings (which creates other issues) it can be confusing (like having to get a new cup of coffee to view your changes.
  • Noticed the options, and used them, I'd like to reference another game with similar features but sadly I can't in public (and it's not the German one, it's in Japanese).
  • Body tattoos could be seen, if you allow like tank tops or beefy hunks in a leather vest, with like a veldspar tattoo on his shoulder.
  • There are several proud four-eyes in the community, and yes, being able to have an avatar in ordinary glasses would be nice (and a quick fix).
  • The body mods are fine (IM(nv)HO), but we want more of them. Thinner, taller, fatter, shorter, even if I realise that the factor of height is going to get the animation team to hunt me down and kill me, over and over again.
  • The small usability issues is comes back to the cpu/gpu hogging, and the fact that some stuff goes missing if you turn the quality down. Leaving the user lagged out and/or confused.
  • IM(nv)HO, leave the bloodlines as they are, we made a choice and this is EvE, every choice can come back and bite you (and normally does).
  • My generic suggestions is to try to find more variation. I agree that in the current state (almost) everyone is too pretty, it's hard to actually a really ugly mean mofo, which would be suitable for some.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Confusing or unclear
The icons for some of the options are a little too subtle as to what effect you're applying. This is especially true of the makeup options. It is hard to distinguish, from the icons alone, where color is going to go, or what shape it will take. It wouldn't be as nice to look at, but it might be easier if those icons were more abstract and high-contrast. A few times I've clicked the Randomize button intending to collapse a section (thank goodness for undo).

Tucking, randomize, and clothing toggle
I've used both the tucking options and found the toggle ("what does this do? OK!"). I usually don't use randomize on purpose.

Whole-body tattoos
Mildly interested.

Glasses
Why not? ...and visors with HUDs Smile

Body modifications
I've not used them much. No problems when I did.

Bloodline changes
I suspect those most interested in blood-line changes are the ones that started with the pre-Carbon CC. I'd also guess that most of us have also made our peace with it by now.

Other suggestions, comments

  • With Incursions, the CC performance was not bad. I have a fairly fast system (quad-core i7-920, ATI Radeon 5870, 12 GB RAM), and the current CC bogs down significantly when adjusting body geometry. For example, I never get a smooth adjustment of the abdomen, by the time the system responds to the mouse input, it snaps to one extreme or the other, unless I'm very very patient.
  • It'd be nice if you fixed the clipping issues with hair. For example, the hair on my portrait here slices through the shoulder.
  • I'd like to be able to zoom out a bit more when creating the portrait
  • It'd be nice to be able to change eye size... nothing crazy, but there's only a choice of position today.
  • Icons depicting poses do not seem to show the actual pose.
  • I'd love to have more control over the lighting for the portrait. On the other hand, I'd love a "match background" button that would adjust the lighting to fit the background (as a starting point).
  • For aging characters, it'd be nice to achieve a salt-and-pepper look, or have a dark gray hair color like the old characters could achieve. Also, would like some of the old hairstyles (especially for male characters) to be added.
  • It'd be nice if those four thumbnails along the left-hand side could be clicked to return to the pose / settings they show. They'd become pose history buttons, not just portrait options.

  • No.
  • Yes.
  • Definitely, if the long term plan is still to have multiplayer environments then body tattoos, arm tattoos etc will still be viewable in those circumstances, or only slightly covered by clothing... which adds a sense of realism anyway. Same goes with scars. Some kind of custom tattoo creator, like the corp logo creator would also be nice, for the added variety.
  • I would argue that a lot of people want to create characters that don't just look like badass military suits, but a variety of characters from scientists to industrialists. Normal looking glasses would be cool but I think those are suggested mainly because there's no variety right now. We really need different themes of clothing/implants/accessories, for example I'd personally would love some cyber punk blade Runner type stuff.
  • Nope.
  • No.
  • Since a person's race is now purely aesthetics I would have no problems with others changing a bloodline, though with certain conditions so it's not constantly used. Same with being able to resculpt your character's body completely, like paying so much for the old portrait swap.
  • My only suggestion is really more variety of clothing, not necessarily racial but themed so we can make our characters truly reflect how we operate in game with them. Maybe more accessories, necklaces, wristbands, belts, bionic arms Lol etc

EDIT: Hair dye damn it! My previous Gallente character had dark blood red hair, I have dark blood red hair IRL, but this guy, all he gets is light ginger.

(omitted questions I was indifferent about)
  • Yes
  • Yes again. While the game takes place in a future where these things could be fixed, I can see wanting to keep an accessory such as glasses for nostalgia or other sentimental reasons. No different than scars or other imperfections that could just be modified away.

since you are all here to talk about the character creator I wanted to ask you a few questionsSmile.

    • When you go through the character creator, is there anything that you find confusing or unclear and could be improved?

    • nothing confusing, keep reading for improvements

    • Did you all notice the "tucking" options, that you can randomize the whole character (and each group), and toggle the clothes off?

    • not on first sight

    • Now we have only facial tattoos... would body tattoos be something you would be interested in (and then how interested), even though you cannot see them in the portrait?

    • yes, but dont push them until we have multiplayer environments

    • A few people have asked for normal glasses... would that be something you would be interested in?

    • yes please !

but please make 2 groups, sunglasses and normal glasses (or just let us change colours of the glass part ;) )
      also pushed up glasses !

    • Did anyone have problems with the body modifications, and if so, what did you have problems with?

    • there is a lot of piercings available

      groups whould be awesome here

(right ear, left ear, both ears, nose, top lips, bottom lips, forehead, intimate, you get it ;) )

    • Are there any small usability issues that bothering you in the character creator?

    • I was a bit confused about where all the sculpting sections were.
    • Uhm... tucking? Can someone explain this to me? I also had a bug where the toggle clothes option let me into the portrait section in underwear, but as it was my main I decided to do it for my alt and didn't get it again. Cry
    • Remember the CQ? P Yes more tattoos.
    • As someone who where glasses in RL... that hasn't been cured in Eve? Unless some other use for them can be made, sunglasses only please.
    • Could be hard to tell exactly what some of the smaller/subtler things did.
    • Let me pause the animation.
    • Probably in favor.
    • Keep the more realistic looks, but remember some realistic encompasses a lot more than what we have in Eve right now. Body type options. I don't want heels or guys that look like they've been bred to be as massive as possible. More variety of clothes and stuff that are not NEX.

    • Changing my characters dimensions was a bit annoying. It took awhile to figure out what I had to do and when I did I just didn't like it. • More sliders, like the sims, less clicking body parts.

    • Do you think players in general would be in favor of allowing bloodline changes, or are there just a few souls that are unhappy with their heritage?

    • Just a few. You picked your heritage, you're stuck with it. That's life. You can't change who your parents are just because you don't want to be Asian anymore.

carbon character creator is great... but it does lack some variety i hope other companies get a hold of it, weather ccp sells it or w/e
i would love to see fallout elder scrolls or other RPGs with an advanced character creator like this.
