Domi "Suggested" redesign from Fanfest is simply terrible

Just a quickie, I would like to see the results of your study about peoples opinions on the current dominix model.

I am of course assuming you have polled a significant sample size about it's looks before making a claim like 'most of its pilots flat out love'.

Instead of a visual buff; instead of retaining what made the thing great, it's all out the window -- it's a downgrade; a net loss. It tries to turn a big fat lineman into a lithe and muscular wide receiver, but falls so deeply between those two stools that the result is lesser than either. Not enough of the former is retained, and not enough of the latter gained, so the result is weaker model overall.

The current Dominix is one of EVE's best models. It may not fit into your own, personal perspective of perfection, but for a lot of us, it is precisely that. A Dominix visual upgrade should follow in the footsteps of the Scorpion; of the Apocalypse; of the Maller -- taking something that was already strong and making it even stronger. It should not, however, twist and corrupt and bastardize a beloved ship into something only in the vaguest sense resembling its former glory. If you follow through with the redesign as suggested, you will take 'ugly and loved' and turn it into 'too ugly to fly.' I hope the difference is obvious.

Me and my friends have always refered to it as the 'space potato'.

To any potatoes reading this, please don't take offence; I love you roasted, or cut into chips or even turned into a good mash! I even like your slightly odd sweet potato cousin.

But it's not a style I find aesthetically pleasing in my spaceships.

I'm all for the new design. It still has curves but they're in nice contrast to straight lines rather than being all of one or the other like the old model. It looks like the same basic shape (albeit slightly stretched.) but with more detail and definition. A bit less like a melted blob...or a space potato.

It should look like This.

I welcome this change, if it is even coming in the first place, really loving the silhouette of the redesign.

While not a big priority to recreate the models in my eyes, I feel like it breathes airs of evolution into the lore and backstory, with factions over time re-iterating and refining the designs to move on with the times, giving a sense of NPC corporations moving with the capsuleers.

I especially like what the artist did with the mechanical design, bringing different systems and sections forward, tells nicely how the ship's internals work and operate with each other, and from where. Exposing parts of the systems also creates believable mechanics. So if the artist is reading this, really good job, love it!

I like flying spaceships, not potatoes.

Could be better but it's an improvement. The myrmidon and the Brutix are nice designs.

The lovely thing about the current Dominix is the degree to which it is somewhat unassuming. It could easily be rebranded as a 'space cruise ship' as a vessel of war.
It's a battleship though. Last time I checked nobody has brought potatoes into battle since the Great Irish Uprising of 1388.

Vexor needs a redesign too. If it got one, I might actually fly it (and the Ishtar).

Oh, and don't forget the Thorax/Deimos. Space pen!s should at least be equipped with two balls.

Back on topic...

The proposed Dominix redesign makes the ship look better. They should have taken it farther though.

When I finally do make an impact on this universe, it will reverberate across the entirety of it, and no one will be able to truthfully claim they don't know me. - -

Until then, I'll just sit quietly over here, minding my own business...

I never had a problem with the old Domi design but MANY people did. If I had to just make a guess I would say it was probably in the top 3 ships that people complain about (top 2 now that the Moa has been redesigned).

The new ship doesn't stray too far from the original design. It just makes it a bit sleeker and presumably will improve upon the overall poly count of the model and add things like drone bays and some sort of warp animation.

I quite literally have never met another player who loves, or even likes, the current Domi design, much less prefers it to the proposed revamp. Until now, I suppose.

This isn't a case of the Moa redesign -- where the model was almost universally panned as one of EVE's worst, and a complete, top-to-bottom reimagining was widely-lauded.

As evidenced by this thread, it actually is exactly like the Moa case. The current model is pretty universally panned.

Sorry you don't like it.

I fly a Domi regularly in level 4's (when I'm not mining) and while I didn't have any issues with the old look, the new look seems interesting to me. Reminds me of a mailed fist.

I've hated the Dominix design for the past 11 years...

Not sure what the OP is so upset about though, apart from the 'slimmed down head' it's barely any different (but reckon we'll have to see the model in full...) - I was hoping for something more radical, like the Exequror changes, or Moa re-vamp....

...though tbh, anything which finally harpoons the space whale is welcome in my opinion...

I don't agree with the OP.

The redesign is a MUCH improved version over the junk we currently have in space, which is extremely outdated (heck it only looked good in the original graphic form).

A redesign that keeps the essence of the original ship is a must-have, for eye candy purpose of course.

The propose redesign keeps the 'bulky' dominix look, but still makes it a bit sleeker, which is in form with the way gallente ships look.

OP is the second person i have met that likes the current dominix hull. The first person was the designer Lol

Been around since the beginning.

The current model is good. The problem is the textures. The model itself does not need changing.

The Dominix current desing sucks, the worst looking ship in the game and desperately needs the redesign like for yesterday.

The proposed model is a lot better than the disgusting space potato we have, although I think it could be done better.

Yes, everyone has their own opinion, but idk where OP got that "most" of its pilots like it.

CCP has done an amazing job redesigning ships and can't wait for the new Domi.

While I disagree with the OP I have to say it is by no means the worse ship in the game.
