Placing a Tower?

So a buddy and I bought a tower and we have been trying to place it on a moon in lowsec. We are within 10km of the moon and we have tried it even further away then that. It keeps telling us that "You cannot anchor the control tower there as there is no moon nearby and this model is designed for use in orbit of a moon." I have anchoring level 2 and I am the corporation leader. We have googled the problem and we cannot find a solution. Anybody run into this problem before?

I find it hard to believe you spent the time to manually pilot to within 10km of a moon. You warp to the area using your context menu and just drop it.

We tried warping to it but the closest it would put us was 5,000km

I don't know how many times I need to say this.

Here is a very simple instruction list:

Context menu (this is RIGHT CLICK)

Select desired moon

Warp-to

Launch tower for corporation

There is no simpler explanation. Did you actually pilot it to 5-10k? O_O

Yeah we did that... We also scanned down the entire area, no other POS near the moon. We piloted to within 10km in case the grid for the tower was for some reason closer than when you warp in. We decided the moon was bugged and moved on to another moon where it works fine... And before you say it was a planet... It wasn't...

It worked at the second moon, huh?
I've got to try this.

Yeah I don't know I guess some of the moons are bugged or something.

No harm no foul mate but dear god you slow poked till 10km away. It reminds me of a guy that was selling a warp to 0 bookmark in a SUN!

I have one of those. It's kind of fun if you want to see how fast your ship can really fly...

You're missing the point. You normally just place the tower on the warp-in point, NOT at a point 10km away. If you successfully placed a tower at 10km from that second moon, then you may have just set up the least easy-to-attack POS in the game.

I think that after you anchor it for corp it defaults to a certain position

It would have been glorious.

You were way too far from the anchor spot!

Moons have pre-defined spots for a tower. They are usually within 100 km of the moon's warp-in.

Drop tower and anchor it, and it SNAPS to its proper location.

An exception would be a moon with a station, as you have to be off-grid from the station to anchor, but the tower still snaps.
