Skill Question/Change

Although it has been a long time since I have finished maxing out this skill, why do the [Racial] Freighter skills require Advanced Spaceship Command V?

If we look at the combat ship progression...

Frigate => Spaceship Command I
Destroyer => Frigate III, Spaceship Command I
Cruiser => Destroyer III, Spaceship Command II
Battlecruiser => Cruiser III, Spacship Command III
Battleship => Battlecruiser III, Spaceship Command IV

Yet, for freighters....

Industrial => Spaceship Command III
Freighter => Industrial III, Advanced Spaceship Command V

I think this might be a holdover from the days when it was considered a capital ship (neither the skill, nor the ship require the Capital Ships skill)??? It's really just an oversized industrial.

It should be

Freighter => Industrial III, Spaceship Command IV

Even the Jump Freighter skill only requires Advanced Spaceship Command IV (which is understandable for a Tech 2 ship)

Can we please get this adjusted to something more sane???

On the plus side, it would provide more freighter pilots as yummy targets, and would increase the demand for freighters.

I wouldn't want to think of trying to warp a freighter without Advanced spaceship command 5. take hours ( exageration) to align.
For the amount you can haul I'd say it is too easy to train into.

Use the force without consent and the court wont acquit you even if you are a card carryin', robe wearin' Jedi.

I actually think it's a recent addition.

Last year (maybe the year before), CCP re-worked the skill requirements for capitals (including freighters). I think ASC V was made a timesink to make it harder for toons to train into capitals.

There'd be a dev blog on this somewhere.

Previously, you required (I'm 99% sure of this, but not absolute) Lv V racial industrial in order to pilot a freighter.

Then CCP changed it so that if you could fly a freighter or JF, you could rapidly cross train into another race. They gave the same treatment to the carriers and dreadnaughts, which previously needed racial BS to V.

Now if you can fly a Moros, you are just a few days max away from any of the other dreads, and if you can fly a Thanatos, a few days max away from all the other carriers. And then same with the freighters and JF.

TLDR: Sorry, you're just going to have to live with it. But be glad, it's the same or less training time compared to the old system, but you get more versatility in your ability to fly ships while training one skill. And yeah, it's basically an intended time sink.

Edit: The JF skill only needs Advanced Space Command IV, but since it also requires a freighter skill to use any JF, it still requires ASC to fly a JF.

they did that when they removed the need for the racial industry V so that it was easier to cross train

Something else that bothers me is the

Requirements for ships like capitals.

-ASC I
--SC V
-Racial Freighter I
--Racial Industrial III
--SC III
-ASC V
--SC V

There are redundant requirements with a lot of the ships. Would love to see these cleaned up.

the skill requirements show you the required skills(grade out) for required skills several of the skills required to fly a capital require the same skills and this is what you are seeing nothing needs to be cleaned up

They are not redundant. As someone already pointed out they are timesinks to stop new players/alts instantly magicing into these ships.

That you can fly say a ship with ASC I yet lower requirements require ASC V is simply to avoid kicking players who already had these ships squarely in the balls for the sake of balance.
