Dev time. It's dev time that players only have to pay for once, and then forget about it. It's a huge missed opportunity as far as digital goods go. SKINs will be consumable, which is decent, but destructible is better.

I would guess they've projected that more additional players will purchase the SKINs if they are indestructible, than they would have repeat purchases from players in a destructible SKIN environment.

Just imagine what this could do for subscription numbers if done with ships!

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Anyway you can't count on CCP getting anything right from the start. The SKIN will be intarchangeable on the fly and will cost no iSK to apply to ships. Roll Good, but no cigar yet.

They're swinging the system from "Stupid" to "A little silly". And that, mind you, after they hired a EA guy to teach them Microtransactions 101...

I can already see the scamming attempts in my mind:

"Psst, kid. Over here."
"Y...Yeah?"
"Nice Megathron."
"Thanks. I just got it..."
"Do you like it?"
"Yeah, it's so cool! It has so much power grid for shield boosters, and enough cargo to..."
"Bet yours can't do this though." *flicks colors*
"Do w...Whoa...WHOA! How are you doing that?"
"I could tell ya, but then I'd have to gank ya."
"Holy crap! Where can I get one?"
"Oh, it's a secret. Besides, you wouldn't understand anyway."
"Aw. :("
"Hey, tell you what, since you seem a cool guy, maybe you should have it. Wouldn't take me too long to get another one anyway since I know a guy."
"Wow! What would you like for it?"
"How about your Megathron, and 100 million ISK?"
"Aw man! But I only have 74 million ISK!"
"You drive a hard bargain, kid. Sigh. I guess I'll help you out. Dock up and let's trade."
"Awesome!"
"Must be your lucky day. ;)"

For the same reason they don't care about them being sold from a cash shop... because they don't affect the game...

In my real-world experience, clothing is already destructible. And this isn't a good reason for doing without it. Trust me, this isn't an excuse the police are going to listen to.

Clothing is actually extremely cheap but the Gallente Federation enforced a strict nudity law that makes it so only the highest class citizens can even afford to cover up. Clothing is done by licensing now.

FT Diomedes: "Reaver, sometimes I wonder what you are thinking when you sit down to post."

Frostys Virpio: "We have to give it to him that he does put more effort than the vast majority in his idea but damn does it sometime come out of nowhere."

While I find it amusing that people are too GRR to accept this as a genuine opinion, the truth is this is not a troll.

Not fussed from a gameplay perspective. Its not a good source of intel (and this wouldnt make it one).

Shiny things to lose on a pod death, sure could be fun.
But having to create unique portraits for every clone is enough to put me off the idea.

EVE FAQ "7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided"

If you're wearing the same clothing across two clones, allowing them to share a portrait makes sense.

If you are too cheap to get a full wardrobe per clone you'll get a grey jumpsuit with ID on it.
And no hair/tatoos/cosmetics - gonna add cash if you want an extra!

I have never liked the fact that clone clothing wasn't destructible, after all implants go phoom easily enough when we are cooked in our shells why not the clothes we stashed in a locker in our pod before we entombed ourselves in goo.
