Fitting a Hookbill

Caldary Navy Hookbill is quite strange for me.
Here is a ship that have no way to fit its native weapon, some tank, and a propulsion without a modifier module (Micro Auxilliary Power Core, Ancillary Current Router, Co-processor etc).
Most of the other ships (even tech 1) are able.

Perharps is there something I don't understand.

some people fly it without tank and use other ways to mitigate damage

one that comes to mind is the tracking disrupt scram kiter.

You can kite at 9km where most short range boats can barely hit you and your td makes sure that they can't.

Also some ships are just designed that way, hookbill isn't popular and that could be one of the reasons.

Which native weapon are you trying to fit?

As I recall, the Hookbill was designed as a Rocket boat - trying to Light Missile fit it is likely to be tricky in that instance.

hes most likely trying to fit a masb or medium shield extender

even with rockets those will require fitting mods

Wait you have to make choices when you fit a ship?

That is odd indeed.

I haven't flown a Hookbill in quite some time, but it actually has a decent number of options available.

You could do rockets with dual web, scram, AB and medium f-s9 in mid, with a meta dcu and BCS in low, though you will need to use a rig or implant for PG.

You could do rockets with no BCS, and drop the MSE for an ASB instead with a meta DCU, keeping 2 webs, scram and AB and if your support skills are good enough, no fitting mods/rigs are necessary.

You could do one of the slightly oddball active armor version with dcu/AAR and replace the MSE/ASB to do like 2 web/ 1 td or 1 web / 2TD, again with rockets, and without fitting mods (SP depending)

And of course there is the really oddball of 400mm armor brick tank, though that one requires 2 pg rigs and basically maxed support skills.

As others have said...kiting with light missiles can be done, but to be completely honest, most fits you will come up with are just a more expensive condor.

May be slightly offtopic, but needs to be noted that Hookbill is one of the best looking frigs in the game <3
I wish it sorta lived to it's looks though, as the massive engine would assume big speeds :(

The Hookbill is kind of an odd duck in terms of fitting but please consider the power of midslots in frigate fights. 5 Mids is "my comedy Helios can solo this Sabre" territory of being able to do obnoxious things to people in 1v1s.
