Skype integration into client

I think it would be cool feature to be able to connect to some instant messengers. While you can gather your contacts and run the game through steam, not everyone has steam (as it's platform purposed for gamers).

So i was thinking when Heroes 6 can have skype, why not EVE? Of course i am not sure how all this works, devs would know better (licensing issues, programming issues, other issues?).

Maybe over time add even more IM protocols (you have IRC there, Yahoo, etc).

why? what would this accomplish?

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

It would accomplish that you don't have to task to the system in order to reply/send IM when you have need for that.

So you want to add in more dev work, more compatibility issues, and more overhead to Eve because you're too lazy to Alt+Tab. Not supported at all.

If you want to use Skype, go ahead and do so, but there is no reason whatsoever to have Eve interface with it.

That does not go the way you describe however. Bear in mind not all the people have powerful gaming rigs. Tasking or running game in window might not be and option for quite a few people out there.
So it's actuually the other way around than you describe. Performance would be increased for people (less load on PC from tasking, and time saved as well - you would be more efficient). And that for one are good things.

just to clarify, i also thinks its unecessary, and if anything would cause more lag, feeding images through the game.

yo if your computer can't handle Eve + skype, you need to get a computer that wasn't built in the 90s

Windows Mode fixed WIndow is your friend. And no, this won´t affect your performance.

More important for this is, if his computer can not handle this, his computer would not be able to handle a new client with a skype overlay anyway ... though I wonder why he use the steam client with its huge overhead and extra need for performance for its overlay. ;-)

Interesting how people draw conclusions out of thin air here...
I have totally no troubles performance wise with EVE (or any game out there) or tasking to system. I don't understand where did anyone got such idea ;).

I was merely suggesting idea for improvement. The improvements is what moves development forward. And yes, this feature is in fact improvement since it brings new capabilities for the end user while it will hardly harm anyone out there (mentioned picture sending i believe can be disabled, as well as voice/video).

i would rather have CCP working on dust 514 or fixing EVE bugs instead of intergrating skype...
and also why dont you try alt+tab or run game windowed

It provides redundant capabilities. Want integrated comms in eve? Use eve voice. Else, there are 3rd party programs that should remain 3rd party programs.
