As someone who has never been involved with PLEX, buying or selling, did it have the desired effect of curbing RMT?

Pretty much. RMT is nowhere near as prevalent in EVE as it is in other MMOs.

The other benefit to less RMT is that account theft isn't a big problem in EVE (in MMOs with a huge RMT market like WoW and SWTOR account theft continues to be a massive problem as nearly all RMT currency is stolen from hacked accounts). There is also a human rights benefit, it was discovered several years ago that the Chinese government was using slave labor in their prison system to run RMT services in WoW. Given EVE's large Russian player base I suspect any large scale 3rd party RMT in EVE would attract the attention of organized crime in Russia.

Your pretense is wrong, PLEX does not generate ISK.

As such, didn't bother with the rest of the post.

This pretty much. PLEX don't add ISK. Buying ISK from CCP would add ISK.

But doesn't the PLEX system encourage people to grind out more isk in order to pay their sub fees, therefore having the effect of adding isk to the economy? Not the same as flat out ccp selling isk of course, but still an effect is had.

Isn't it the PLEX system that encourages people to use multiple, even dozens of accounts, in order to generate even more isk? Those huge fleets belonging to one guy, would such things exist without PLEX? Perhaps but it would be much rarer to see such a thing.

Alts existed before PLEX.

CCP providing an option to pay for your game time with ingame currency does not mean that you HAVE to grind the isk for plex. Let's pretend that PLEX was never added ingame, and let's also pretend that RMT doesn't exist.

The total amount of ISK in game would still go up, perhaps slower than now, but it would increase nevertheless, and there would still be inflation, albeit at a lower rate of increase.

In any case, it's not the PLEX system that encourages people to generate more ISK. It's human nature, specifically greed, that encourages people to generate more ISK.

My 2 cents.
