As the title implies, a checkbox in the settings to be notified when someone makes a post that uses you name in a 'quote' tag.

This would make keeping up with ongoing conversations much easier.

I very much like that idea.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Yes, please. Since different discussions that have something in common then to end up in a single thread, it would be helpful to know when branch you are interested in get any attention.

Adding tag-in function (inclusion of @Charactername in text that makes said character receive a notification of the post) can be helpful too.

Also, I suggest an option to exclude all text under quote tags from being automatically included from new message when you reply to something. Those staircases of quotes sometimes are horrible to read.

Then we maybe could lift that limit on quotes in a single message, or at least increased number of those allowed.

No to forum auto piloting.

The next logical step will be for those CODE deep immersion role player ninnies to start taking a dump on forum threads and demanding posting permits.

Or if someone really wants to talk to you, they could - you know - write a message

'You do realize there is a check box down by the post button when writing a message that says, "Recieve notifications for this topic," don't you? Also there is a button towards the top of the thread that reads, "Subscribe," that serves the same purpose.

A feature that is so close to your idea as to make little difference is already there.

Yet it's not what he asks for, reasons and differences are stated above. I mean, it's enough to just follow threads like these, with 5 responses in a week, but they aren't everything you'll see on eve-o. This is especially felt when updates hit the server and mods start lumping everything in a single feedback thread no matter the topic.
I dealt with system like OP suggests and it's a godsend on crowded boards.

I like the idea,

However the amount of people threadnaughting because they now know when they are being argued with, might cause all of CCP servers to crash and the building explod. Ezwal would probably commit suicide, Dorrim would soon follow, LackOfFaith would Ironically find faith in God and being preaching his findings about the sins of Forum Mongering,

IIrc those buttons give you notifications for all posts in the thread, even if you are just trying to keep up with a single conversation within it.

I use the subscribe button to good effect. Even in threadnoughts that move several pages per hour, it's ok. Chribba has something tied into eve-search, that notifies him of mentions of his name. Perhaps the person you're looking for is him, to ask about a new Eve-search feature that will notify you via RSS. (or something).

Yes but you only said Chribba's name twice, instead of three times. Here, let me help you :D.

Chribba the forum Djinn

There's another use for this, depending on the mechanics of it. General text detection can have unintended overlap with character names, so I'm thinking a specific button activation would be more accurate. Most logically this would be the Quote button itself--make it function similar to the "like" button, in that it sends a notification to the player.

However, I frequently use the like button to call people's attention to my reply (and get them back in the thread). This is of course activated from the respondent's side, unlike passively monitoring for any quotations from the OP's side.

It's silly, but there's a possibility of pranking people by incorporating their name into a post, or pressing the quote button without following through with a post containing that quote.

Depending on how the text detection is done, you can also make a person's name invisible in the body of a post, by making a hyperlink of invisible alt codes such as Alt 0160:

[url=Chribba] [/url]

which displays as the following post below.

Just something to think about.
