Did CCP ever thought of adding wear of any kind to this game?
Could help to fight inflation. Could also reduce oversized capital fleets of some alliances. In real life no country can maintain billions of ships or tanks without ending up like North Korea..

I've played games that had this mechanic, and all I can say about it is that it becomes an annoyance more than anything else for pretty much every single player.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

I seem to recall it was considered at one time and then rejected for whatever reason. Coding difficulty I think.

Or it's just my confusion between what the forum warriors were saying and not CCP in some threadnaught long ago.

*Thinks about glorious mission runner tears when the durability runs out on his faction fit marauder mid mission.*

*Thinks about even more glorious tears when freighter breaks down with all of people's assets inside.*

*Thinks about miners tears when their barge implodes with no outside interference.*

This is a great idea.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

...OR there could be introduced into the game a way to embargo/sanction an alliance into the ground. Perhaps once you have alliance wide average standings of 8.0 with an empire, you could impose restrictions on market transactions for your competitors.
Naturally everyone would try to go for Caldari so Jita would be ruined for their reds, but it would also make it crucial that null alliance members run missions in empire space. Man that would be crazy.

The nature of tritanium and the environment it operates in would say otherwise.

It would be nice though if paint jobs started to show their wear. Imagine mining ships actually looking like something that exist in an environment of abrasive objects.

Small matters.

Isn't the whole concept redundant anyway because of nanites and ****?

Old idea that pops up from time to time.

It generally isn't received well because such a concept penalizes those of us who who...

- prepare ahead of time (PvPers and corp managers set up numerous pre-fit ships for "grab and go" situations).
- actually survive the rigors/risks of space.

Plus...

- it is just annoying as hell to have to constantly repair every time you do anything.
- it makes deep space operations (wormhole living, endless scouting tasks, Black-Ops, nomadic lifestyle) extremely hard, if not impossible.
- younger, poorer players would be more adversely affected by this than older, richer players.

Considering most citizens of new eden could comfortably retire on 250,000isk, I think it's safe to assume that cluster-wide maintenance is factored into the 900,000,000isk/month pilot license cost.

Presumably CONCORD wants all ships in good working order.

In a world you don't care that you ship explodes, wear/tear doesn't exist since you just replace it. You also have ammo costs, drone replacements, and time itself to fix "wear" when a cycle on a repper for what ever layer of buffer you are replacing, skill points itself is a type of wear out on patience.....no we don't need things to spontaneously break, just need players to get bigger balls and stop fearing CONCORD if they are living in highsec cause the only they can afford to replace is a destroyer in a wolf pack to a shitfit freighter with 3x cargo expander (CCP needs to remove those lows, reduce cargo capacity to 250k m3, increase hull hitpoints and force freighter pilots to make more trips)...maybe that one player would be willing to lose a cruiser or BC when it becomes harder to kill cattle Roll in a fleet gank for lesser rewards.

As a matter of fact, they are thinking about it and even working on it right now:

changing graphics levels that have happened since the switch to PBR. PBR is very beautiful but the way
the layers work, when graphics are dropped to medium the ships are not displaying true to their core
look and this needs to be corrected. This includes adding new ambient occlusion and the ability to make
ships look worn and dirty, which could become part of gameplay depending on how old your ship is to show age and wear and tear after fights and usage.
A big part of the backend work on this will be going
on towards a May timeframe.

I've had ships in use for YEARS. That would have been great.

Still .... uh... wonder if we'll get a paint barn or something. I don't want to be rolling in a hoopty. Even the new Phoon is still dragging a muffler.

Id rather like to see ships have history, purchase date, kills with that ship etc etc, would make ships more appealing to keep hold of, everyone loves stats ;)

Visual wear would be pretty cool, but wear as a cost of running a ship is unlikely to come in. CCP have made it clear they don't like designs where players have only 1 option, like clones, the only good option was to upgrade your clone. With wear it would be the same, it would just be something you do, not something you choose to do.

Maintenance costs only make any sense for supers really.

I assume everything else gets routine maintenance during those long periods of time when it's docked up and switched off. Supers cant dock and at a guess are always on in some capacity. I guess as a result they would require constant checks and fixes that other smaller ships wouldn't.

Anyway, it would be annoying and not make much sense for most ships. Even for supers it would probably still be pointless, I guess it might have some effect on super proliferation, maybe.

I love this idea P

We could even have Gas stations
A dedicated ship for refuel while in battle
The more fuel you carry the bigger the explosion, thus anyone in the area will suffer Shocked
Dedicated fuel ships, that work like a mini Gas stations
A new type of ship that could collect [insert fuel mats] like a miner ship

we already need fuel for capital ships to move around and it sucks. At least to jump to cynos, but that would be so annoying to have to keep oyur ship fueled.

I like to think that our ships have a bunch of solar panels on them and we don't need another energy source or something like that
