The music of an FPS is the report of your weapon mingled with the lamentations of the women of the slain.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

Ever seen how Anarchy Online make their music? These are the raw sound tracks but what the game does it combines tracks depending on where you are what you are doing, making music for you.

What? The tracks aren't discarded:

https://soundcloud.com/ccpgames/eve-online-proteus-2015
https://soundcloud.com/ccpgames/eve-online-rhea-2014-release
https://soundcloud.com/ccpgames/eve-online-phoebe-2014-release-theme

They're on Soundcloud!

Instead of looping the current release track, you should add past tracks behind the current one. It would give : Proteus, then Rhea, then Phoebe, etc...

Alienhand is amazing and I have no idea why CCP did not pick him up ages ago. It was pretty obvious he was looking for work.

Their styles only slightly conflict, and frankly AH's style works far better for Nullsec whereas RealX is more fitting on highsec.

Still kill to have either of them work a few tracks into Dust. Hell, even one combat track would be nice. That game is so..... quiet. It's ridiculous.

AH is also great.

IMO the best thing to happen is that Eve expands enough that RealX has "a crew" and I bet they would be one heck of a cadre of artists.

And +1 for anything involving more and better music. Also the bringing back of all jukeboxes to be re-installed in their rightful dashboards.

Whoa. Just to clarify. EVE's music is historically significant both in its originality and its quality. So's dweebs comin' in who think they're god's gift to music loving don't dump on the reality with their commercial bubblegum and decades out of date RAP appetites. Appreciate quality. EVE's music is top notch.

Paradise is like where you are right now, only much, much better.

I have removed a rule breaking post.

The Rules:
3. Ranting is prohibited.

A rant is a post that is often filled with angry and counter productive comments. A free exchange of ideas is essential to building a strong sense of community and is helpful in development of the game and community. Rants are disruptive, and incite flaming and trolling. Please post your thoughts in a concise and clear manner while avoiding going off on rambling tangents.

I can't even begin to describe the level of Wat in this thread, especially the OP.

BTW, what happened to Hazar? he used to do cool dubstep for EVE trailers... I'm still waiting for him to release the instrumental version of the Retribution theme. CCPLEASE

Sure. The principle is we'd rather have our developers taking the game forward than maintaining what amounts to a WinAmp clone.

Well you could equally say that having a dev spend time on tracks that are heard for 5 seconds during log on and then never heard again is a waste of time and money.

Atleast add the expansion tracks to the ingame music playlist. no need for a jukebox just add the tracks to the exisiting playlist !

Pretty much exactly my point, thank you.

It does get pretty depressing listening to the same 4 tracks over and over again. At least I don't live in null. Listening to that damned background droning sound all the time would make me just turn all sounds off.

On a positive note, I love the new theme tracks when they're released. It's just a shame that they only get heard for a few seconds at login.

What I will say, is that the setting for nul is somewhat appropriate if you're venturing out there for the first time... maybe, after a certain amount of time spent out there, it could be replaced with something else? Because I can easily imagine it becoming quite tedious to listen to after a while, that is when you can hear it... that particular theme seems to be somewhat muted in places.

More tracks with wobbly guitar like "Gallentean Refuge" please. Bring Solstafir in for a collaboration some time, they're Icelandic and they play wobbly guitar.

Just thinking back to the Jukebox and soundcloud.

Would it be possible to have a development cycle dedicated to updating the ingame browser. The ability to use sites like Soundcloud and Youtube would anyone to play any music inside the game client itself.

Hell would be great to watch tv/netflix on in the client during a POS bash.

A dream feature would be the ability to cast (thinking of chromecast) from the browser to the CQ screens.

I really liked the Rhea theme. I would often just sit at the character select screen to let it play.

The soundcloud situation is immersion breaking and whatnot but there is a significant positive here:

CCP has said that the IGB won't be updated any further and when they get that CREST thing fully functional, they want to dump the IGB. How they think a set of APIs for third party developers will replace a web browser I have no idea but that's their plan.

I don't agree with all this removing of in-game functionality and relying on out of game tools, by the way. It's immersion breaking, adds yet another app that I need to be running in the background not to mention that not everyone has a second display but hey, I seem to be in the minority.

Question? Why can't we see CCP integrate soundcloud into EVEN just like they did for twitch.

It gives people a "jukebox" plus allows CCP to have their expansion music heard beyond the login screen.

MMmmmm .... yeah, I remember repeatedly crashing on log in until the Jukebox was disabled and I think I needed a GM to tell me how to do that in a config file as it happened as I logged in.

Probably due to costs, licensing and corporate negotiations.

Then just use something like libVLC: https://wiki.videolan.org/LibVLC/

Python bindings, LGPL, , multiplatform, and a crazily easy to use API.

I recently integrated a Winamp style system in one of my applications and it took me under a day to get a ton of features working with it. Granted, your codebase is much bigger, but it's a really friendly lib that could probably be used with fairly minimal hassle.

I really dont see why the old jukebox had to bite the dust, it was doing a great job as it was, noone asked for an ingame sound mixing tool. Ofcourse I am not a dev, so if they say it was hard I believe them.

However, I agree with the new tracks being added ingame, its a waste of effort and the ingame music needs help! It gets tedious and repetitive very fast.

I also think that outside solutions to game music (soundcloud, mp3 players in the background etc) are not valid answers. Ofcourse I can listen to whatever i want on my computer/mobile/stereo/gramophone but this does not answer the question "why is EvE online ingame music so generic and uninteresting."

I mean, its not a reality for most, but think about people with limited computing power or limited internet who cannot run more background programs or stream music off the net.

I belong in the second category, with a 10gb/month 3G connection. I cannot stream music for hours, so Soundcloud doesnt cut it for me, sorry. At least, add more tracks to the ingame music list so there is a bit of variation, right now all we get is droning noise sounds that get turned off after a short while.

Thanks for reading - V
