3 is way too many. I doesn't teach new players how important it is to plan you skills... But I'm guessing you are planning to sell remaps for plex soon anyway, right CCP?!

This functionality seems like it would pose an interesting decision for those with newly created alts like me.

I remapped my new alt right before this change went through and only have 1 remap left. According to what has been written here, if I recreate my alt immediately I will have 3 remaps and still have 2 left over after remapping.

This means that for the cost of a couple hours of training time and 20mil in implants I can effectively get the remap back. Is this correct?

Why not just remove attributes and be done with it? Perpetuum did.

Why not run an MMO without a playerbase? Perpetuum did.

CCP is working on it.

When exactly did that happen ?
They started with a similar system as EVE but in reverse - as in, you get the SP-equivalent constantly per account and spend them whenever to instantly bump a level of something. But the costs for level-up depended on some stuff. And that stuff would be the equivalent of attributes.
Are you telling me now all level-ups cost the same in Perpetuum ?
Apparently. I got the newsletter on the 29th of October:

"We have come to the conclusion that attributes in the long term create unneeded annoyances and limitations, so we have decided to remove them from the game. To compensate for the loss of attribute bonuses, we also reduced the base EP cost of extensions, and the recalculation this requires also means giving back everybody some extra EP (yeah!). Spend it wisely, because maxing out all extensions still takes around 16 years!

All of this means character creation is easier and faster, and new players also get the chance to downgrade their extensions freely during their first 30 days, and get back any EP and NIC they spent with a few limitations to prevent misuse. The account reset feature is gone as well since it is no longer needed."

On the one hand that first statement is correct. On the other hand, the same statement could be made about lossy PvP, PvE that doesn't just throw money at you the instant you turn up, and playing video games at all. :D

This is an intended side-effect of fixing how the remap system works. I noted this briefly here, but that's buried deep in another thread. Smile

In brief, yes, new characters get two bonus remaps, as usual. However, due to the separation of timed remaps from bonus remaps, new characters (and characters who have never remapped) can effectively remap three times within the space of a year - once timed, and then twice with bonus remaps.

I have a new char in the cooker that I started 2 days ago. I show only 2 remaps as I haven't used one yet. Are you saying I can remap right now and still have the 2 bonus remaps neither of which will be used?

Yes. If you move mouse over the remap available text which is above the bonus remaps text, the tooltip should say that you can now remap without using any bonus remaps.

No, you would have one bonus remap PLUS the ability to normal-remap.
Which, granted, sounds like two bonus remaps, but it's not exactly that.

Emphasis added.

I think that is exactly what he is concerned about, that if he had waited until after the remap change to use his remap, he would still have 1 bonus remap in the bank instead of none.
