Major problem with overview

Hi guys I am having a problem with my overview that I have tried just about everything to resolve.

I will try to explain the best I can, but I can add my friend that lives next door has not got this problem.

When I go ratting in a mission this is what happens.

to start I warp in and the res cross of the rats appear so no problem so far.

When I target a rat and kill a rat it does not disappear it just de highlights. So after killing 10 rate and a new wave appears I have the new rats and the de highlighted rats I killed. These de highlighted rats are not displayed at wreaks just to let you know.

If I clear the next wave of say 10 I have now 20 rats displayed all de he highlighted so now I have 20 in the overview.

Should I take the activation gate to the next pocket I now have the new rats 20 de highlighted pats and any other thing that was in the previous pocket I did not kill for example stationary guns.

Its making the game impossible to play.

The only way to clear the overview or refresh it is to tab out of the game and come back in.

So far I have un installed the game completely including all cache and re installed the game a fresh.

The real strange thing if this helps when I go on singularity test server I do not have this problem.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Sounds like a bug to me. File a petition bug report so CCP can investigate it. Include as much detail as you can.

When all else fails, flush the cache (see gear on launcher) and reset the overview / UI to defaults (see ESC menu)

The overview gets "locked" (frozen as it currently is displayed) if you press the Ctrl key. What shortcuts do you have that use the Ctrl key? Try pressing it once when your overview gets bugged like that, see if it clears.

Yep, definitely sounds like a stuck Ctrl, as if the key is depressed, anything on the Overview will remain there, but grey out if you can no longer interact with it (ie: if its dead, or if you warp off-grid). Since you say this starts as soon as you target a rat (I assume you hold Ctrl and left-click to lock), I guess your key gets stuck at that point. My old keyboard used to have a "sticky" Ctrl key, and what the OP is describing would happen all the time, with me frequently having to bang the key quite forcefully to get it to unstick.

I get this bug all the time, and it started when I added a 3rd monitor to run 3 clients, although whether that is the cause or just a coincidence I don't know. The ability to share your overview settings came in around the same time. It's exactly as the OP describes: the padlock icon stays on all the time, old items simply fade, new items get added and the overview grows until it becomes useless.

The workaround for me is simple: if the overview on client A locks, I click on client B or C and it unlocks. It is as if the overview does not update until something else takes the focus.

I will however check my CTRL key and maybe remap it to see if that's the problem.

Update:

My CTRL key is not sticking, but I can clear the problem by pressing and releasing it. When the bug appears it seems as if EVE is seeing the [key down] event when the CTRL key is pressed but not seeing the [key up] event when it is released.

Yes, I suspect it is.

I would guess that it is related to running the multiple instances and that something in my setup is not passing the events correctly. However, the OP is clearly getting the same problem ... be interesting to know how many other people are affected by it. There may be something CCP can do with it as it may relate to the way in which multiple game instances are polled or listened to.

By the way, this is 3 separate client instances I am talking about here, not a multibox setup.

Your not alone, so I figured I would tell you how it happens to me. You know, for SCIENCE!

I suffer the exact same symptoms on my overview when playing on a virtual windows machine on a mac book pro laptop.
Even with graphics turned all the way down, the game is responsive etc except that the overview keeps all the ghosts.

Single instance
Virtual machine
only app running

I never bothered to dig into a solution though, figured it was just me and the VM causing trouble.
