Daww!

For me the players make the game. Smile

Anyway you write good posts, seem intelligent and level headed about how you feel and obviously find something good enough here to keep drawing you back. I hope along the way you find something that makes it worth staying.

I still have concerns that EVE is just successful enough for *someone* to keep making the game they want to make, rather than a game that people want to play.

Probably our concepts of "game that people want to play" are different, and maybe are totally opposite. But I feel the same, EVE is the game someone wants to make for artistical(?) and/or ideological(?) reasons, not necessarily a game others would want to play.

Perhaps oddly, I didn't do it 'cause I think I'm badass, I did it because I wanted to go to the edge of the map and see what was there.
For some reason I believed that the edge of the map wasn't the edge, and that the map would fill in once I got to the edge and I found a new system to explore.

In other words, I wanted to go where no pod pilot had gone before, find a new race of aliens, and then **** them - fly back and get my brown wings pinned on me from someone...

Alas, the map was the map and there was nothing new to explore - just more rocks to mine.

Explore inner-space instead.

Much more stimulating than outer space, safer when done responsibly and it's map is limited only by your imagination.

Forget rocks, get your friends and go murder people brutally instead.

Otherwise there's always the forums. Cool

I'm going toi disagree with the op. being here for nearly 11 years now, the past year has actually had huge improvements over the past 10. i feel less of ccp looking for the next big shiny and neglecting stuff. i see them actually following through with things, a few exceptions like the nestor, but all in all things are going well.

"Wasting development money" is a dumb criticism of a video game company. it really is. for its ccp money, and they need to expand to other products or they die. Nature of business. HOWEVER, the money they were spending on eve proper seems to be going to better use. As i said, it feels like features are less half assed, and and being taken to there final conclusion as opposed to a 'oh we will finish that later' and never touch again.

But hey that's just me.

CCP's money is divided against their investors and the revenue they yield from a number of sources.

The revenue of EVE is an incredibly significant amount of the revenue they get.

In other words, ten years worth of sub money, whether that is pilot licence extension or genuine monthly deductions; makes rational criticism of CCP development plans completely valid.

I could draw on dozens of examples over the years as I'm sure you could, where criticism was not just warranted, but justified with evidence of what the players did and did not want.

Ambulation is one such clear example - all that money over the last 7 years so people can stand in front of mirror and be bombarded with pop-ups. All the time, they got broken game mechanics everywhere and as you rightly say, they seem to be spending your money now in the right ways.

It's pacification development for gaming.

Oh I fully agree, they squandered money set aside for eve on too many incomplete or not working ideas, WiS, Constalation Sov, pos', pi, etc.

However, imo they have changed this direction and focus since fan fest last year.

Well ever since the riots they wont touch WiS with a 10 foot pole and are dead set on fixing everything else.

All the ships are worth using now instead of one like the exequror and augoror being forgotten. The ships like the punisher and maller finally have a dmg bonus. The ugly Cladari ships got new models. Bounties being farmed from alts in pods was fixed, FW got an overhaul, there's more exploration content and the sleepers are invading our space :D

They gave us an infinite skill queue, no SP loss from being podded because there wasn't any emergent decision making being made in asking "should I buy a new clone?"

And they let capitals use stargates in exchange for huge nerfs on jump drives so now random hotdrops are no longer a thing and people that were scared of said hotdrops are actually out and about shooting things now.

^^

Like I said, it's like I never left.

Releasing fixes that should have worked at the planning stage and claiming it's a good thing - check
Not even bothering to fix content because they lack the funds to do so, thanks to investors and illogical development decisions, yet all while claim it's because they are doing so at the behest of the player base - check
Dangling shiny trinkets to pacify the players a tad longer so they will keep giving sub money - check
Claiming they are a AAA studio when they are ignored and laughed at by the rest of the games industry and have no marketing funds to compete - double check

Y'see, it's not that hard for CCP to do just enough to keep players pacified and subdued so they can get just enough funds to do what they want and keep their jobs, and their investors happy. CCPGAMES have got a lot of talent working for them, but mainly this talent is in the last sentence, and over the years have become extremely talented at it.

What content is broken?

Lack of new missions doesn't count btw.

The council have a long list of content which is broken.

And PvE is a significant part of any MMO, not that I'm familiar with what's been done in this part of new Eden over the last two years.
