Hey guys, please help this poor noob out Cool I warp through a gate with atleast 20 ships sitting on all the gate spawnpoints, preventing me from cloaking (as i am with 2000m of a ship). What can i do to save my ship for next time?

Do not aggress anything and burn back to the gate to jump out if you are not thrown off the gate too far.

Do some research on your intended route using DOTLAN or the IGB. Look for ship/pod kills.

Do not jump blind into any system with potential hostiles. Scout the system/gate before you jump using an alt or a nullified/stabbed ship.

A 20+ gate camp is serious business. Sometimes you just get caught.

Don't go through that gate.
Only go through that gate with a fast aligning frigate or shuttle.
Bring friends with bigger ships to scare the camp away.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

In the circumstances you describe, not much.

Your best bet would be to be in a travel fit interceptor, try to warp away and hope they don't lock and blap you before you align.

At the other end of the spectrum, be in something tanky enough to burn back to the gate and jump back through. But they will likely follow you and kill you on the other side.

Which brings me to point three...be the bait for the much bigger gang waiting on the other side of the gate. Now that is truly entertaining Big smile

in my experience the chances of spawning that close to people in a mid size gat camp are actually pretty low. More often than ot your are more likely to get caught by someone burning at your position before you can warp ojt to decloak you. Which as has been mentioned, you can't do much about if youare slow to align.

Not much you can do except take solace in the fact that it won't happen very often. In eight years, I've been decloaked by a camp maybe five times.

You have a better chance of winning at the blackjack table in Vegas than being decloaked at a gate camp. Though, if it happened to Mr. Epeen, it can happen to you...decloaked, not win at blackjack. I've never been decloaked.
I try to arrive nude.

Spam local with porn
Wait 10 sec
Burn back to the gate (they won't shoot you, they will be busy fapping)

Have covert capable ship. Hold cloak. Look at your surroundings. Wait until people are further away from you. Double click random direction away from bubble center (I don't go straight out, I usually go up/down/diagonal, straight away means dead right away.) Overheat and activate MWD (longer duration, also helps to fit those "useless" engine thermal shielding rigs) and cloak (practice makes perfect).

Ive broken through large gatecamps with this method in null. If someone gets close.. don't panic. If a dictor drop more bubbles on you.. don't panic. If you are in Low, hold cloak and wait for them to move away, cloak and warp.

If the odds are not in your favor, which sometimes they might be, burning back to gate is your best option. MWD and cloak back to gate. By the time they decloak you, youll usually be in range to jump out. Once again, don't panic.

People who panic are the ones who get caught. Panic leads to mistakes which gate camps capitalize on.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Not saying incredibly bad luck is not a thing, but looking back at my times of failure, I can say panic was the cause of most of it.

Screw that, PANIC!

Mash all your buttons, then log off so you don't see your ship explode. Then log back in (hopefully they podded you back to a station) and act like it never happened. It's what I do.

Generally if the fleet on the gate is actively engaged rather than just camping, they won't even bother with you.

In lowsec they will also decide whether it is worthwhile to suffer the gate guns & sec status hit.

One thing that no one has mentioned. Consider joining a player corporation. There are plenty out there that are willing to help out, teach you the basics of survival and what not.

Excellent advice above, a couple other creative solutions:

1. Wait your full 60 seconds gate cloak, hoping that some other poor victim jumps & decloaks before you do

2. Convo the fast locker (inty, usually) just before moving. Usually there's more than one but you never know

Also, remember that if you try to burn back to gate and don't make it, it's unlikely that you'll get your pod out (in lowsec; in a bubble it's simply impossible). So if you're in lowsec and your pod is worth more than your ship, forget about trying to save your ship and focus on your pod (align to a moon and immediately start spamming warp; don't spam too fast, remember to bounce off the moon before pos guns blap you).

That level of gate camping isn't very common. You happened on to something and the gate camp was cover. Wait it out, let them finish whatever it is they are doing.

Can't be said enough that taking a few minutes to research the recent activity in the systems along your route can go a long way. Avoiding obvious hot spots of ship/pod kills won't help you avoid every gate camp ever (sometimes it's in a choke point, sometimes you're just the first one there) but more often than not you'll be able to spot a system you need to stay out of and plan a quieter (probably longer) trip around.
