I use both the Rattlesnake and a Golem. The snake is a lot a fun but for lvl 4's, I fly the Golem. Drop a Mobil Tractor Unit and you can salvage almost as fast as you clear a site. I like have my missiles in two groups, so I can target different NPCs.

Large Micro Jump Drive

Sensor Booster II, Scan Resolution Script

Cruise Missile Launcher II, Scourge Precision Cruise Missile

Salvager II
Salvager II
Small Tractor Beam II
Bastion Module I

Large Warhead Flare Catalyst II
Large Warhead Rigor Catalyst II

Hobgoblin II x5

The B-Type X-Large is cheap and rep's a ton. In bastion mode, it will rep a little more than a 1/4 of your shields each cycle. I keep auto-run off to keep from forgetting about it. The sensor booster is to help with frig's, swap it for anything you want.

Another option is to get both. Once you have a fitted Golem, you will use just about the same setup on a snake. And the snake hulls are right at 400 mil now.

I have found using a MJD and the Bastion just didn't work for me.

I can see how the MJD can propel you off in any direction you wish, if you need that for safety.

The Golem can target out to at least 118km, so the MJD really isn't needed for positioning.

But back to safety. If you hit a wrong trigger(s), you could get swamped. That's what the Bastion is for. I can just sit there, dish it out and tank it all, NP. (I did that in missions even before Bastion and MJD.

Still for safety, if you get jumped by a fleet of gankers. (as the Infidels did to me so many years ago). The MJD could be, and would have been, very useful. However, if the Bastion running, and you get jumped, you can't escape until the cycle is over. So you can't use the MJD. but the Bastion should keep you alive, until Concord arrives.

IMHO, I just don't use both. Since we've been given the Bastion, I go with that.

Has anyone heard of anyone losing their Maurader in high sec in Bastion mode to gankers? I know what 7-8 BSs can do Navy Scorp in a short amount of time. I believe a Bastion Golem would survive.

Always remember Tovil-Toba, and what was done there.

seen plenty of marauders die in high sec, mainly around SoE level 4 agents.

Haven't see gankers use battleships to gank, ts all about the "gank" they only get 2-3 cycles before concord comes. If you get tricked in to agressing them so they can engage, well firstly you not very smart and secondly a pve fit ship has very little chance of beating a pre-planned pvp ship.
A golem as with all the maruaders has a beast of a tank even with a large shield booster, so there should never be a time when you need to bail from a mission.. but each to their own as to how they fit.
People get ganked mostly when leaving station or jumping a gate.. and if they just bothered to put their hardners on they would have a better chance of survival.. ALWAYS turn your hardners on.. unless you flying in a nice safe place like null sec ):

... What next ??

Should be two rigors, not a rigor and a flare. A T2 rigor is always better than a T2 flare.
