When I hear "Corporation" I think "stock exchange"

How about a scrolling ticker stock exchange and central EVE bank?

Yeah, I dont trust third party. I'd rather have CCP implement it ingame. Hell, all the taxes in EVE can be applied towards interest.

I am already the EVE Bank, send me your iskies and you will earn a 0.02% interest rate on it if you want access to it, or 3.2% if you give it to me fixed for a year.

Market people have been asking for a stock exchange and public dividend tracking for ages.
No progress has been made.

P.S. We don't really need an EVE NPC bank either. We just need better tools for player-run banks.

P.P.S. "Better" is not exactly the right word, since we have none to speak of to start with. "ANY" or "SOME" would have been more appropriate.

Why the **** would anyone sell shares in their corporation on the open market?

You forget the #1 mantra of EVE....TRUST NO ONE-especially with your money.

Their is no viable way to make functioning stock market in EVE.

There is no way to hold what are essentially disposable virtual people accountable.

From what I understand, the original concept was to have a stock market of sorts, with people buying and selling shares of corps, but they could just never figure a workable method. I agree, it would be cool, but I have no idea how such a thing could be implemented either.

Yes there is. If we can have markets and contracts in EVE, a stock market is possible. It just has to be thought out carefully and implemented. CCP can use their in-house economist to spearhead the whole thing.

It would add a celebral element to EVE that enjoy financial gambles and conquests.

The only way any of this would work is if a character became a corp and not a custodian. One that could have its assets froze and could only make transactions with approval from shareholders.

Dear CCP,

If you build it, they will come.

Strictly speaking, the same is true IRL: there is no way to hold people accountable... except through communal ostracism and raw force. That said, I would not want such artificial institutions as CCP sanctioned central banks and stock exchanges. I much prefer that the process of building such institutions be a part of the game, rather than the institutions themselves being built into it.

Indeed. Stock markets in the real world work on a mixture of trust and the knowledge that you'll have the legal weight of most of the developed and developing world landing on anyone who tries to scam people. And of course even then things can go horribly wrong...
In Eve Online only CCP themselves would have this power, and I believe they've said they were perfectly happy to allow that Eve bank scam to take place.

The other reason is that corporations in Eve aren't anything like their namesake in the real world, apart from acting as tax shelters from the government I suppose. They tend not to have shareholders who elect directors, they're not publicly traded, they don't publish annual accounts or get audited, they're not bound by any central legal authority.
What Eve Corporations *are* like are a form of medieval organisation known as a ... guild.

While we're at it, I'd also like to see mandatory Board of Director meetings with minutes and full published business plans for every corp. Also, annual tax filings that require the use of at least 5 different forms, and need a Space-CPA to prepare.

If possible, can we also require permits filed with the appropriate board for each activity? We could have different forms to fill out for each type of gun/ammo combination, for use of each type of mining crystal or maybe even have a OSHA form to fill out to undock.

What would be the point?

Corps don't need investors, they can just buy isk via PLEX for $$

Well, in reply to the naysayers...just becuase you dont like it or find it useful doesnt mean others wouldnt. Investing is a good way of making ISK if the proper "safety" features are implemented correctly to prevent fraud. That doesnt mean it still isnt a gamble. You can still lose your shirt, but you can also make a fortune.

Maybe this kind of mini-game isnt for some, but it will attract those that enjoy financial wars and conquests. But for those that find it painful to think past pew-pew Roll and see EVE as just a space shooter, it wont be your thing.

It would just be an extension of the current business model in EVE anyway. The basis is already there in the way of Corporate shares. A stock exchange woud be the next logical step. Assuming EVE follows any logic at all.Ugh

Since Incarna, I've had my doubts.Straight
