I have never had any interest whatsoever in the Barbie aspect of the game thus far.

But, if I can buy decent 'permanent' ship skins, I would happily do so.

I get nice ship skins, CCP gets more of my real life money.

Win - win.

is not a matter that liking microtransactions or not...

there are people with real jobs and family who cant play all day and for whom paying 40 usd for 2 characters monthly is more than enough, and adding features for an additional $, stuff which of course i would like to have is just out of the board.

Allowing players to do anything other than change colors may have a few "minor" issues:

- scope for commercial logos and advertising
- all sorts of "interesting" designs unsuited to viewing by minors
- offensive slogans and racial slurs
- symbols banned in many jurisdictions including the red star and swastika
- legal but very controversial stuff like the ISIS flag
- just generally awful designs in bad taste with horrible garish colors

I'm not talking about crazy ability to do custom PJ's I'm talking more about a large amount of decals other then the basic paint scheme's. The ability to use a corp or alliance logo or both on a ship. and be able to "barbie" it up if you want too

Well I am against any kind of micro-transactions in a subscription-based game. I am also opposed to the idea of CCP spending their development time on this kind of nonsense instead of working on content that is accessible to everyone.

Of course I realize that the kids these days are used to micro-transactions everywhere, that we're well past caring enough about EVE to repeat the Jita riots and that I should just shut up and live with it. Still, I don't think greed is good for the game.

The name is so bad, it made me cringe!

Then again, the promise of Guristas Edition Everything makes up for it.

If I want a Serpentis Edition Megatron I get myself a Vindicator. Just applying a Serpentis skin is like painting a Trabant in Ferrari red.

How is there a lore issue with self-painting ships? Your ship can do that already, CONCORD just blocked that option by default until now.

There is a fix for that.
First, CCP publishes tools that allow for in-game designing of ship skins. Once you design your skin, you submit your design to CCP for vetting. Vetting is to insure your creation is appropriate for Eve, and for every age group that could end up looking at it. This vetting process takes time and effort of a CCP employee, so it must be paid for. The creator pays with Aurum or PLEX, which represents real money to CCP.

If CCP approves the skin, the creator gets the right to sell licenses for the design to other players.

Sort of like the alliance logo submission process.

That process though has been undergoing a "rework" for a while now from what I understand. Granted that system's issues appear to revolve around real world merchandise and all that cool stuff more than anything else. Still, I think something like this might be more possible once CCP gets their rules on intellectual property and licensing all squared away and decide on a more streamlined process of reviewing player submitted content.
