Ha! I know this is my fourth post in a row, but I'm still playing with the new map and thinking of features.

One feature I would like to see which I mentioned earlier is for each of the systems along the route you've chosen to show the name next to that system.

I would like to add to that suggestion that along with the name of the system it would be helpful to also display what region that system is associated with (perhaps in parentheses).

This way you can see which regions you are passing through in your travels, should you be interested in markets along the way.

An additional idea.

When displaying a type of information (let's say 'Pod kills in last 24 hours'), have an option to show only that information for the current route (if one is set). So you would see those systems with the circles around them (dependent on how many pod kills there were). Next to each system you might also automatically display the system name, region, and information chosen.

i.e. In a system with 10 pod kills it would show..... System Name (Region) - 10

This should probably be a selectable option in the event you want to see all the data perhaps for finding alternatives to the chosen route.

I love the new map, but here's a feature I personally think would be pretty fantastic and useful:

Zoom to cursor - Add the option to select if you wish to have the camera zoom and out of the current cursor location, meaning if you're in let's say Dodixie, and you want to check out The Forge region, or Jita specifically, you can just put the cursor over that area and zoom into it to center the map to that general location. Further zooming would take you into solar system view over the system your cursor is currently hovering above.

I hope that made sense, if not then the best game example I can think of that uses this feature, is the camera zoom function in the Wargame series, Wargame: Red Dragon, for instance.

The ability to pan around the map with right click & drag would also be useful.

Well that's my lil bit of input, thanks for all your hard work, guys! :)

Also +1 to this idea, really good.

Region Filter:
Tenal, Branch, Venal, Deklain and Tribute Regions have nearly the same white color tone.
Immensia, Detroid are both white.
Tenerifis, Impass, Fethabolis are both light ochre.
Querios and Delve are both white.
Genesis, Everyshore, Sinq Laison have the same colour yellow color tone.
Solitude and Aridia are both red.
etc...
This is something that really bothers me with the current map too. I do a lot of exploration and open the map very often. Clearly defined colours for regions help me a lot to quickly reorientate myself. A quick look and I know what is where and can use the map. With regions having basically the same colour it is a big mess for the first moment. Then I have to find position and orientation. Then I can use the map.

Kor-Azor label is in the middle of Khanid. (Maybe move it somewhere to Choga system)

Avoidance Systems, DED Agent Site Report, DED Deadspace Report Filter circles are far too big.
Maybe try to make the border a little bit thicker instead of just blowing it up. I understand that it is important to make size an indicator because of colour blindness, but the circles get as big as a whole region. It's just too much. But in general I like the look very much! Nice work!

It's really pita to use it without panning. I'm happily awaiting the fix Big smile

Max. zoom while skipping through search results is really irritating since it gives you no information about the location of the result. I don't remember systems based on their solar system layout. Smile I remember them based on thier spacial location on the map.

Red highlighting for Service Filters doesn't fit well with the other filters. Other filters look new and fancy and Service filter just look unfinished.

For the Route. The weird ant trail looks very bizzare Big smile What is this? Why not just make the lines thicker and that's it. It is very distracting. Like in the old map with colour based on sec. status.

The system connection lines and the icons of their stargates are often very far away from each other. It looks as if they don't belong together and the line is just ending somewhere in the system. Especially inter constallation lines (the dashed ones).

The difference between region and constallation lines is to small. Constallation lines should be just slightly different from normal lines. I don't know if there actually is some value in it to make them that visible.

I really would love a base setting for star system colours. Like colour by region. And then apply a filter on top of that.

I agree the region colors are too similar. I mean it's not bad looking but it's hard to distinguish regions. Maybe they could introduce color schemes. Or maybe there is a better way to dilineate the regions.

Not too sure I like the thicker circle idea. The different sized circles seem effective. Maybe I'd have to see your idea in a full map.

Agreed!

Indeed. I think the zoom prior to the last iteration was better. The last iteration though was zoomed too far out, and now this one is zoomed too far in. I think the best zoom would be somewhat further back, such that you can still see some of the local neighboring stars. I don't remember exactly what the zoom was a couple iterations ago but that seemed good. Something like this perhaps where you can see the solar system starting to come into view but you can also see some nearby stars. http://postimg.org/image/b5grzgnj9/

Ant trails? The dashed lines? I think they are alright. It makes it easy to see which jump is to a new constellation or region. Though frankly I have no idea what it means to be in a different constellation and why it has any importance such that you would want to know you're going into a different constellation.

Any chance of better targeted information in the map, for example how many asteroid belts, are in a system, how many player ships destroyed,.

I mean the the ant trail for setting a route. This fast moving dashed line thingy.

Another idea:
It would be nice to be able to set filters as favourites. I use avg. Players and jumps in last hour a lot. They both are at the bottom of the filter selction window. If I could mark them to move them to top or something like that it would be awesome.

This is about the "old" map, but what I'm about to say also applies to what I want in the new map:
I'd really like it if there was a filter for which locations are shown on the starmap (particularly personal or corporate).
I'd use to see fairly quickly which systems were of personal interest to me, but now I'm in a corporation with loooots of locations, I can't really do that anymore.

It's very cool but we are still going to need a way to pan around the thing where the method is not clicking on tiny dots :)

EDIT: And a way to add favorite systems which always show brighter with a label next to them.

Definitely going to have to say the map navigation is too sluggish. Maybe I've been too accustomed to the crispness of the old map but I want to believe that it is actually better with the crisp movements.

Also the animations or symbols for showing data like jumps and pilots in system really needs to be more prominent. It's only apparent enough in highly populated highsec systems. Everywhere else is almost indistinguishable from the others if it's not a massive difference. Either color or size would be acceptable to improve imo.

Oh yeah, that would certainly be nice to have. I too have a few filters I like to use all the time. Definitely be nice to see favorites at the top. Maybe it could automatically determine most frequently used and put them in a drop down list at the top or just above Industry (Frequently Used would still be in order alphabetically)

Oh and the "ant trails". I kind of like that effect myself.

I prefer the old 2d map with the ability to zoom into a solar system, and also zoom into a planetary region. The mechanics of navigating the new map even in abstract mode had me wanting to throw the whole thing against the wall. When I'm trying to trace a route, I don't want to zoom in and out, I want to move the map flat laterally or up and down. When I have a destination set, I want to see the details of the route. I also want to see the security color for each system enroute.

One of the things I'd like to do is create routes manually, by looking at all the optional paths from point A, so on to point B. The automated capability is nice but I don't want to be limited to automation.

I wish Panning is back.
My suggestion:
- Speaking of panning, it would be cool if the map can have grid system like in Elite: Dangerous. It can be turn on and off for people who do not wish to see it.

the beta map started off well and looked promising but now i feel its worse than the existing map. Cry

Key issues

- lack of right pan

- the lines leading to other solar systems in the same region are missing. (only have the adjacent systems are connected via lines now, which sucks)

What is the use of a map if i cant see what the region solar system connections are....
If i need to see the adjacent connections I can just look on the overview. Roll

[Feedback]

-no right click paning is needed
-connections are not clear between systems

- REALLY frustrating : mouse pointer covers up the first couple of statistical numbers, be it ships destroyed or jumps, or pilots in system in last 30 minutes.
Either move the statistical info on top of the system name, or make some space between the mouse and info.

Good first impression but needs polish

Haven't read all of the many pages of suggestions but I'm just starting to use the new beta map and I have two "nits" so far. Adding the option to flatten would be perfect. I also believe it would be helpful to be able to scroll dynamically so if I want to see a certain area, I can mouse over, scroll and it zooms me to the area I'm moused over. That is so common in mapping in general that I'm surprised that wasn't already included, even in the beta. Map looks beautiful though! And being able to dock in on my left screen so I can see it while flying....#winning!

Late to the party but let me voice my vitri...opinion.

The map function is only used for finding destinations and info and as such it needs to be accessible quickly and without issues. I'm sure that people who don't do too much in EVE in terms of activity will love the cool animations, fluff and silliness but people who actually DO stuff aren't helped by it as it wastes time and requires too much focus & attention to decipher the info.

- I don't give two hoots about cool animation, it wastes time and probably also resources (laggy situation + several clients = good luck) and it's disorientating and thus distracting

- in abstract mode there's no point in being able to rotate the camera

- I don't like how there aren't any "snap settings" for zoom, I realise that this whole zooming in and out on the stars and system map is cool and all that but I want instant info at the push of a button, NOT having to use the mouse wheel and hope I don't overshoot the zoom (which, again, in laggy situations is going to be a problem) because that takes too much time, effort and focus.

I like improvements but these "improvements" only help people who aren't actually doing anything. For PVPers or people who are otherwise busy it's a distraction and waste of time.

Hey so the map is clunky for not following my location with focus. I have to re-click the circular icon for my location, and then the map zooms in on the system, which I have to interrupt with mouse scroll wheel up. I'm also unable to pan the map for the purpose of route planning.

So. It doesn't track me properly, nor does it do the opposite and pan properly.
