Could they? Will they, no.

Yes, it immediately reverts.

Still being looked at.

This limitation makes the feature unuseable for wormholers. Please consider making the paint persist until such time as an unlicensed pilot takes the helm.

terrible

As someone who has flown skinned ships before, half the draw is the extra bling factor of bringing out a more expensive ship. If it isn't destructible, this all goes away.

exactly. it's not bling if every ship you ever see has quafe or whatever on it.

I think that it wouldn't be very hard to add it a stat to the assembled ship that says which skin it has on it. Maybe my neurt Abby is a blood raider one, my art Abby is tashmurkon and my pulse laser brawler Abby is kador. It can even be applied to the fitting mechanism so that specific fits have a skin pre applied to it. If the character doesn't own a license for the skin then it fails as if they didn't have the module I their hanger for a normal fitting.

This way the skin could persist when not in the ship until someone unlicensed gets in it, in which case it deactivates like a module. Like if a newb steals a T2 fitted BS and all the guns go offline :P

Additionally you could pick to set a skin as a default for all newly assembled ships. And use a skin shop window that can be used to set a skin to mass numbers of ships, if for example you have 20 atrons you wanna reskin, but not the other 10 for suicide runs to another skin. This shop can be a mini-NES to let people buy licences directly and be the future window to be used for player-made skin designing.

It could still be used in space though to reskin the current ship, but when docked can reskin any of them.

And if we returned to client side rendered icons you could have a ship icon that reflects how the ship was skinned for quick indentification.

Then fly special edition ships. Or fly more expensive ships. Or put more bling on your ships? It is not like you don't have options.
Plus, most of the current custom skins are not that much more expensive then the base hulls currently, anyhow.

Was wondering about this. I think clarification is needed...from my understanding getting back in a ship will reapply the SKIN of your preference. Will that happen at an SMA or can SKINs only be selected in a station? WH dwellers everywhere want to know, I'm sure.

From what I understand, once I set a skin, every ship I get in will have that skin. If I want to have different ships look different, I'll have to go to the fitting window every time I swap ships.

Could you have the client do that for me? Remember my preference for the skin on a ship by ship basis (or a ship-type by ship-type basis) so I do not have to go through a click-fest every time I change ships?

I think it could all be done client side. The client would just tell the server "set the default skin to xxx now" every time I swap ships.

The system will remember your preferences by ship type. So if you set a Megathron to be the Quafe Edition, every Megathron you get in to will automatically change. We most likely won't be doing this on an individual ship by ship basis though.

So we are not getting the custom ship paining system advertised at the last fanfest ?

So just looking for some clarification on not implementing the systems displayed at fanfest. This system required inputting a seperate model for each different paint scheme, or....? This system of nano-coating really still doesn't interest me at all...although I fully realize that it's the base for more work so I'm not trying to say you shouldn't have it. The skins system is just SO limiting. At the very least I would expect corp names to come soon, I'd love to put my corp name overlayed on any skin.

In short, point of this is why this system and not the system shown at fanfest (in a little detail more than we can't please). Thanks!

edit: Perhaps saying it doesn't interest me isn't completely true, I just don't plan on using it. The future of it will be interesting.

That fitting panel needs a button to collapse the SKIN section, and the current setting for it needs to be remembered from session to session. PLEASE don't tack things onto our fitting panel without giving us a way to reduce the size again. Also, it could maybe benefit from some filters so we can choose to see only the skins that we already own, or only the skins we haven't purchased yet, etc.

One of the great things about Eve, compared to some other games, is that I don't have to see 'for sale' advertisements stuck in my face all over the place. (I'm thinking of the starfighter hangar in another game...) Anyway, don't change that aspect of Eve, please. Some of us really appreciate having a game that isn't cluttered with buttons to click to spend more RL money.

While the general implementation seems vastly improved over the current system and I like skip skins, I have one massive concern; the big buy button in the ship fitting panel. It might not seem like much to you, but I never want micro-transactions to intrude on my regular play. Especially in Eve Online, where it already has a full priced subscription model. I can't shake the concious thought that I'm being manipulated into a purchase. It's pressure I don't want to feel in a game, and I feel justified in expecting a clean experience with my subscription.

The mock up here would effectively place an advertisement in a task we all do regularly. I understand why you'd want to do this as a business, but do realise you're trading the quality of your product to do this. It wont be enough on it's own for (most, it'd be enough for me but I'm weird) people to stop playing of course, so you're not concerned, but the things do add up. It's the straw that broke the camels back, so to speak.

The current system is hidden in it's own menu, that you never have to see unless you want to. There is no in-game advertisement and this is exactly how I think it should stay.

TL;DR - Please remove the buy button from the fitting window.

So, how about license, that you obtain from LP stores? Are we going to see more of those now (like the police comet)?

Custom fittings being an extra bling thing is also more in line with the modern eve goal of everything being destroyable

Overall, i really like the idea. It's a good way to implement skins without cluttering up the market tab with all those (skinned) ship duplicates. The only downside i see, is:

Quote:
For now the licenses are permanent and cannot be removed from your character once applied.

That would be a really bad desicion, in my opinion. Please CCP, reconsider this point.

Furthermore, if i may add an idea for the conversion of existing ships/BPCs to the new license system with the example of the Quafe Megathron:

If a player owns a Quafe Mega BPC it will be converted to a Quafe Mega Skin License.
If a player owns the actual Quafe Mega Ship, he will get a regular Mega and a Quafe Mega Skin License instead.

I highly enjoy this notice regarding ship skins.

I wonder if perhaps we will FINALLY be able to paint our glorious Amarr Hulls in Equilibrium of Mankind colors? Bear

One question, this will apply to Shuttles/Industrials/Transports/Freighters too? As a Hauler, I spend a lot of time in my Industrials all over the place, and so far all I have seen is love for combat ships, but none for the industry ones (and shuttles)

All in all a wondrous add to the game, more colors and a solid stepping stone for Alliance/Corp colors and perhaps "decals" too!

+1!!!

No not at all. That system is not complete and once it is will probably be integrated somehow into this system. We want to offer you guys high quality amazing skins and experience. This was a choice by the team.

EoM and Khanid are my favorite. As for industrials, I hope so.
