Im still very new, coming up on 2 months I think, Im all over the place trying everything and of course, dieing.. a lot.

Coming into this game I read about the ruthlessness of the players and how nowhere is safe etc etc, basically a dog eat dog.. then poop on whats left word, err universe.

Ive been mercilessly ganked whenever the opportunity has presented it self, of course, but twice now I have had experiences that have flown in the face of what I expected from other players..

The first time I was in my shiny new Thorax, I had read that you could make good money ratting in lowsec, so off I went, of course I stopped in the first 0.4 system I came too, right next to hisec, you know.. because that felt safe Roll

Sure enough amid this epic battle with 3 rats, someone warps in, I know what to do, I know whats about to (probably) happen.. but I don't know what the hell I'm doing so I get locked down, and killed.

Nothing surprising there, but what came next was.

The other player starts a conversation, and basically tells me that my ship was so poorly fitted, that he had to kill it.. like put it out of its misery.. I couldn't help but laugh, because I'm sure he was right, I didn't know what I was doing, we chat back and forth and he gives me some tips and fitting advice, and we part ways, as I head back I notice my wallet flashing, I click it.. The guy that just killed me had sent me 10 million ISK.. which then (and now really LOL) was like hitting the lottery.. I thanked him profusely for that and he just simply tole me "we've all been there"

Not exactly what I would expect from someone who just Ganked me. Hell of a guy.

The next incident was similar, I was in my lowly heron.. in WH space you know, because I have any business there, I was hunting hacking sites and had just arrived, moved away from the gate, deployed probes and cloaked. right behind me an Astero warps in.

I know better I know I should have just left, or at most probed down another WH and went through there or something, but the first site I scan down happens to be a relic site, so off I go, the lurking Astero never far from my mind.

Ive learned a but about exploration, and surviving while doing it, and actually most of the times I have been killed in my heron it has been because I warped into someone's POS. Talk about luck.

Anyway I saddle up to the first relic 4k out so I can cloak if need, I align to a celestial and get started, 10 seconds into the hack the Astero pops in, right on top of me, I actually manage jump before he can get me, much to my surprise. He immediately starts a conversation with "nice reflexes!" I then complement him on his ship, I really dig the astero, and when I can afford one I will have one... and then I will spin it in the hanger and never fly it because I will be terrified to use it.

I warp into the next system through another WH and right into a gate camp. which I manage to escape.. I felt obligated to warn the astero, despite his attempt to kill me, he seemed cool. so I let him know about the camp.

Next thing I know he drops 20 million on me, I guess that was a tip for the info, but still not necessary, what a cool dude.

Really makes me feel somewhat welcome when the people trying to kill me turn out to be nice folks.

just wanted to share, and when I can afford to do so I plan to pay it forward.

Cheers.

A lot of players here do it for the sport. The Most Dangerous Game-- 'game' meaning 'prey.' The most dangerous game being another fully conscious, equally dangerous human. Who may be armed. Or if not, might have been taking risks harvesting, unarmed. But them again, could just be bait.

If only EVE just had 64 squares, like a chess board. Or it were 100% not subject to chance, like chess. With no random backgammon rolls, no soap opera storm interventions, no lurking market manipulator masterminds....

Anyway, a lot of people here see all of that as the sport of it. They go after it full bore, but they don't take it poi-sonal. "This time it was you, next time it will be me. Unless I can fool you again!" heh

I've said it before, EVE has the best community in online gaming I've seen so far.

Grrr.

Gah. Next time can you organize your writing to include the main point up front. That post is a mess.
