Also, that article isn't exactly factual.

What do you expect from a website that's giving Anita Sarkeesian free, uncritical publicity?

Next up: Eve Online is full of whiteracistbigotmisogynistichomo/trans/otherkin/whateverphobes and a hashtag campaign to remove their advertising from the interwebs.

That campaign hashtag gets 1000 tweets (800 from spam bots) and then die a week later never to be heard of again.

Then again it's more likely we may see half a dozen articles declaring "EVE Online is dead!" published within a day smearing every EVE player as a "sociopathic pissbaby".

Lol... reading that article a few weeks ago was what actually prompted me to re-sub.

A fool and his money... well, you know the rest. Blink What can I say? Don't fly around with a pile of Plex and expect not to get shot.

Not in Eve, too much RL getting in the way.

That guy would be on the top of the yearly candidate list if we had Darwin awards in Eve.

This post was rated "C" for capsuleer.

No. Returning them to redeem items will make them redeemable in that station only. First time redeeming can be done wherever you want.

On the plus side, links like these are handy to give to people who complain about the "senseless" shooting of noobships

Only a fool would move PLEX, leave it where you bought it and it is safe, just use it as you need it.

As DaReaper stated, it use to be like that.

Obviously CCP has changed it so they can see more Gaming News Headlines written about Eve Online.

And people wonder why some players shoot noobships all the time.

Personally I avoid the whole issue like the plague. Both sides have done some pretty despicable things, so the sooner the whole thing dies down the better.

Don't hate. Smile

Why says that he paid cash for it?

QFT. If one were to pay rl cash for them, they would cost $1500. But that doe snot mean the person that lost them actually paid cash for them. They could have been purchased of the market.

I'm so sick of these arm-chair web commentors saying how player x lost these many thousands of dollars playing Eve because they got their money blown up or stolen. This is factually untrue.

Assuming that Player X actually paid rl cash for PLEX and did not purchase them off the market, then Player X paid CCP for in-game items. Money is now gone. Player X loaded his in-game items into a ship and got them blown up, just like thousands of other players and in-game items every day.

The only difference is that player X was very foolish to load such a high isk value stack of stuff into a noob ship.

Sensational "journalism" at it's finest. And the comments show it works.... pathetic

Noriko, keep in mind that there is at least "some" validity to the statement.

The PLEX do have a real world value, whether the person in question paid that amount in actual currency or not.

So while the person may not have lost that much actual cash (or maybe they did, who knows), he did lose items that had that much actual value if they were purchased with cash.

As you say, it's more sensational to state it in more simplistic terms... but it's not entirely inaccurate.

^ This x1000.

Does it have more impact if we associate dollar amounts with ISK? Sure. Does that make it sensational journalism? Possibly. But take these two items into consideration:

A) It is, as Ranger said, not without and element of truth, and...

B) Your average layperson has absolutely no point of reference. Associating dollars with in-game currency helps render the loss comprehensible.

In the past I've likened it to buying a lottery ticket. Sure the chance of getting a big win is minute - but the cost is trivial and the jackpot can be huge, so why the heck not?
