"This week in EVE" is a weekly overview of EVE Online related news and events and shows what is going on in EVE Online. The focus of this overview is on official news from CCP: For example, dev blogs and important forum posts by CCP developers, the ever evolving background story and upcoming events. The previous weekly overview can be found here.

The current "This week in EVE" gives on overview of the week from January 10th to 16th

Dev blogs and official news
Damage profiles by Ship group and weapon type
CCP Quant created and published another interesting piece of information: an overview of the weapon systems that have been used in PVP between February 2013 and January 2015 grouped by ship type. Check out this exciting graph.
Data is beautiful!

CSM 9 - The year in review - Feedback thread
The Council of Stellar Management (CSM) is the annually elected group of players supporting both the player community and CCP development. CCP Leeloo, the CSM coordinator, announced in her blog the upcoming election for the CSM 10 and presents a review of the past year with statements and summaries from various CSM 9 members. Candidacy for CSM 10 opens at January 30th, election for CSM 10 starts at February 25th. Check out this blog for a good!

Proteus has been deployed - Feedback thread
The Proteus release has been successfully deployed on January 13th. Proteus brings new visual effects in asteroid belts, a remodeled Exequror, a full rebalance of recon ships and more. Reported issues with NPCs not attacking properly have been resolved in a patch the following day.

o7 show
The o7 show is a regular CCP live broadcast presenting news from the developers and community in a fun and entertaining format. The latest o7 show, broadcasted on Thursday, January 15, had a sneak preview of features in development, ship concept art, player meets and more. If you have missed this exciting show, check the YouTube channel above for a recording!

Background story and storyline
Circadian Seekers: DED advisory
DED, a division of CONCORD, issued a general warning to capsuleers. The Circadian Seeker ships seem to adept themselves to (perceived) threats. All pilots should use caution when approaching those Seeker ships!

Game mechanics
Stacking modifiers on penalties
Using modules that have a positive effect on modifiers will result in additional modules becoming less and less efficient, an effect known as Stacking Penalty. Read this EVE University article on Stacking Penalty for more information. CCP Terminus explains that the negative effect of modules on modifiers are also subject to the Stacking Penalty mechanic, in that case it results in an overall positive effect.

Details on the new New Player Mining Anomalies
The new ore anomaly to be found in new player starting systems, the New Player Mining Anomaly, will respawn immediately once the ore in that anomaly is all mined away. This way new players will always have a way to learn more about mining. Maybe some day they will become a legend on their own!

Starmap (beta) lacks panning via right-click ... for now
Currently you cannot pan around the new Starmap (beta) by right-clicking and dragging your mouse. The feature was removed due to some issues, but CCP Turtlepower confirms that right-click-panning will return once it has been fixed!

Graphics
Ship skins and the Fanfest 2014 vision
At Fanfest 2014 we saw a vision of player created ship skins, but the current implementation of ship skins is not very close to this vision. Please remember that the current ship skins are still a pilot project. CCP Darwin explains that the Fanfest vision has not been forgotten, but that for the near-term we are going with pre-designed ship skins. Stay tuned for more info!

4k textures - not in the immediate future
The request for high resolution (4k and above) textures is heard, but for the moment there are features to be implemented that have a higher priority. Using 4k textures on ships requires quite a bit of work and that work can, at the moment, be spent on things that have a bigger impact.

It would be nice to see "balance" come to this game... I first started to try this game out in 08, but it just lacked innovation and creativity.. The buying plex from a developers website just favors people with money to advance themselves in the game over players who lack the ability to do so.. Why does a company do this? Greed and money... I just paid for a month to see what changes or improvementa that have been made and so far I still just bugs after bugs.. Only real noticeable thing I saw was ships now actually look like ships lol.. They have been detailed which to me should have been done along time ago. Another thing is that I was looking at Strip Miner I and ORE strip miner. Only difference I saw was about 335mil more isk... For 2km range difference? Why even make the ORE Strip Miner? This is where balance comes into play... If your gonna have an be for a rediculous amount more then at least make some sorta beneficial change to go with it!!! I'm actually surprised to see this game still alive.. first reason I quit was when I learned that you CANNOT train skills on another character on YOUR account (of course now you can) but only if you pay MORE money or spend an absurd amount of time playing the game. It's bad enough that skills already take months and months in order to be able to just one or two things well. Thus having said that, since it takes 4-6 months to just mine effectively, there should be no harm in the ability to skill a secondary pilot to train for a different plan like combat pve or whatever, again, just a ploy to get you to spend more money, not to mention. Plex only buys 1 multiple skill train.. Not for the account (ROBBERY). jusr when I thought Blizzard Entertainment was bad... CCP has nothing on them and I'll be going back to WoW. EVE HAS TOO MANY BUGS AND NO INNOVATION!! And that makes for a very boring game!! good luck withy the space GUI for your Excel workbook... If you want help designing some real content for this game and help make it better (which will take an American like myself) contact me with a job offer and a dollar amount!! In sure you know how to reach me!

This was done speed texting on my phone so, apologies for any incorrect grammar

We also released EVE Meet during the o7 show, EVE Meet is a framework to help the community find out of game events near them, and create and advertise their own.

We hope evemeet.net will lead to a steady increase in the number of events and the number of players attending them!

If you suspect that developers or other groups misuse their powers or privileged knowledge, then please contact CCP's Internal Affairs department with reasonable evidence and proof so that they can investigate. Thank you!

You mean like market manipulation based off privileged information? how exactly does one 'prove' that?

What a joke

We have to take the world, and Eve, as we find it. At the end of the day, CCP is an organisation which demonstrates the values of its leadership, just like every other organisation.

Personally, i enjoy Eve immensely, but i also have grave doubts about the way null sec mechanics and alliances work, how they have worked for a long time, and what that says about the core values at CCP.

CCP are entitled to do whatever they wish with the game. It is their game. We can always choose not to play. I am a new player, and the parts of the game I enjoy are not really affected by corruption. furthermore, i don't mind paying extra for the experience, compared with those who have special status within the game. I refuse to be distraught and lose my enjoyment because CCP are not universally pure souls who are beyond temptation.

Furthermore, it is also pretty clear that CCP does have some very good folks in charge. CCP Seagull has been earning everyone's respect, and I believe she calls things as she sees them. That gives me great hope for future improvements in the culture at CCP.

So there is room for hope, and for improving an already great game. The fact that a person like seagull was chosen to lead also shows that the owners of the business model understand their own best interests.

Those of us who want seagull and the other honourable leaders at CCP to survive and thrive need to understand that they are few, and the veterans of the game are many.

With luck, the game will eventually get moving again in the sov null territories, and the CCP staff who are confused about who they work for will be quietly moved out of the company and into new employment opportunities.

In a very real way, the two things are one. So long as CCP employs staff who cheat to favour special friends, the special friends will dominate the game and, naturally, nothing will change.

I advise to treat null as a different game to the rest of eve, and rejoice that so much fun and so many good times can be had in low sec, missions and FW.

Eve is still a remarkable game, and CCP a remarkable firm, despite the embarrassing and increasingly obvious nature of null.

Thank you for the work that went into the original post.

CCP - Building ant hills and magnifying glasses for fat kids

Not even once

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.
