iMac Retina Display - UI issue

So, you have one of these puppies.

The resolution is at 5120x2880. The EVE client allows for that, no sweat.

The thing is, once you've opened the client, the windows look like postage stamps, and the font is -really- tiny.

So, you set the UI at 150% and you increase the font size so that you can read the windows. That doesn't work for all windows and somebody will get their boat blown up because of that [not if, but when].

It does work though and EVE looks crazy good on the new screen.

Then, the socket closes.

And when you come back and you log in, your interface is in the top right hand corner.
You can choose a character and try to change the UI back.

Then you see this: http://imgur.com/bf1HxNO [it's not porn, gross or offensive, I promise].

You can't reach the controls to change it back.

The rather stupendously fabulous CCP Karkur had this procedure to get back into the client with a workable interface:

1. click "invert camera controls"
2. do 4x shift+tab
3. hit the up key a few times and hit enter
4. click Apply

In step 2, you might be able to get there by using 3 instead of 4 tabs, see what works.

Then you can get back into the client and continue working.

I'm trying to find a setting so that the window is big and the windows don't suck. I'm still working on that.

Your problem is that you are running MacOS 10.10 (Yosemite) which is not supported by CCP. They recommend the rest of us to downgrade to Mavericks, but unfortunately people running new Macs can't do that.

I don't know what to tell you except file a bug and hope they get their head of there arse and get support for Yosemite before to much longer.

Personally, I have gotten EVE to run (mostly) using Winery and installing the PC client, but that may not work with the Retina...

I'm running EVE on Yosemite just fine. Only thing is, for some reason it launches 2 clients whenever I start EVE. Doesn't appear to have a negative impact.

Also, although there appears to be an option in the graphics settings, using a 5120x2880 resolution does... funny things with your screen.

Then you are lucky. Many (maybe even most) of us who are using Yosemite on older hardware are experiencing random crashes...often while undocking. I personally lost 2 ships to this before I switched to using the PC client with Winery. That does't seem to crash, but there are a lot of other "glitches" (things missing or rendering incorrectly). Hopefully CCP is close to finishing its Yosemite support and we can all have a happy experience again soon.

I'm running Eve on an early 2013 MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM, integrated Retina display, Yosemite 10.10.1, intel core i7 with 4 processors, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB. The app works fine. It freezes up less often while running on Yosemite than it has been under Mavericks, but it does freeze. I ssh into the machine from another machine to kill the Eve process to free up the mouse and screen, altho sometimes it mysteriously fixes itself.

I can tell you that most companies will be rather harsh in their 'not supported' policies, so we're lucky it works anyway. Having said that, I'm not going back from Yosemite, even if I could.

I'm hoping, going by previous Fanfest roundtables, that they're working on updating their support for the Mac under Yosemite.

My reason for not doing that is that CCP look at the number of clients logging on from various platforms. If the number of true Mac clients would decline to some random number they have defined they could go 'meh, nobody uses a Mac anyway, we'll just cancel support for it'. That's what happened to our Linux friends. I'd much rather not end up in that scenario. I could always come up with a Windows partition solution but I don't want that. If I wanted to run Windows I'd have bought a PC.

Having said that, if they went "Well, we can build you a dedicated Mac client for EVE, it's going to cost you $50 bucks though" I'd go: shut up and take my money. I'm spending that money faster than I can blink.

Are you running in Windowed or Full Screen mode? If the latter, try switching to the former.
