This. I do not think any sort of banning system should be applied to the locking system. Ie: You had derps thinking that AFK cloaking is just never talked about - thats one strike for their ignorance, not their trolling.

One derp is fine, please refer to post #6

+1 but I would take out this limitation. 3 locks and you do something else for 24h.

Hell, it's just 24h (which is reasonable), if you have threads repeatedly locked down you probably need a break from EVE-O anyway, for your own good.

As you specified, ISDs should be able to 'flag exempt from lock count' when they lock, to prevent silly games.

Make space glamorous! Is EVE dying or not? Ask the EVE-O Death-o-meter!

Well, the removal of the ability to post would come from a ban, which is not handled by the ISDs contrary to popular belief. ISDs would be able to remove posts made by these individuals if they try to impress their agenda on other threads, escalating it to the proper authorities if need be. This idea is to keep the new topic spam from happening, which always incites trolling and other rule breaking.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I have to agree with the others that the ISD's can use their best judgement on issuing a ban. I'm fairly certain they have that authority.

I don't know what sort of records of offenses they have on hand, or if they have a way to issue demerits of some sort.

Ideally they should have one to identify trolling posts and have those marks accumulate on someone's account. So they could at least keep track. Such a system should notify the user their post has been marked.

What I do find funny is that there are those who seem to think it's not trolling to insult a person's idea (or the person who posted it) rather than give a reasonably worded assessment of an idea's merits or flaws. Yet they think that the OPs idea is the trolling post (or that a negative response to their insult is being a troll.). Weird. Yes feeding the troll is bad, but I think we can agree the troll is worse.

So such a system might open these people's eyes as to who is and who isn't the troll.

(And yes I'm thinking of some very specific people).

Self-entitled crying about something YOU don't like on the forums. How hypocritical of the EVE-O forum regulars.

If you want a three strike rule, it has to apply to all the main forum rules. And guess what that means...

2. Be respectful toward others at all times.

The purpose of the EVE Online forums is to provide a platform for exchange of ideas, and a venue for the discussion of EVE Online. Occasionally there will be conflicts that arise when people voice opinions. Forum users are expected to be courteous when disagreeing with others.

4. Personal attacks are prohibited.

Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not conductive to the community spirit that CCP promotes. As such, this kind of behavior will not be tolerated.

So go ahead, fight for a 3 strike rule. I agree, let's do it! I'd love to see half of you banned within a week.

I am well aware of the irony associated with a suggestion like this coming from myself. The rules are already covered by the warning/ban policy already in place, this suggestion supplements that policy with an automatic measure and applies to people spamming new topics as discussed by myself and Loyd earlier in this thread. Thank you for your agreement and support.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?
