Seen Geckos prices jump over the last week, did something happen or normal price movement?

They are a finite resource and will as such forever increase in price.
Among speculators there was unfounded worry that there could come a Xmas present Gecko influx, and since that didn't happen, the price went into acceleration mode.

What I have found surprising is that the price has gone up 15-20 million over the last few weeks yet that daily volume has been consistent. I would of expected a drop but I guess people who want to use a gecko do not care what they pay.

I considered buying some pre-Christmas but felt the risk of a reissue was too high for my risk tolerance threshold.

People willing to make bigger risks than I got paid off for it.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

Guess that means the price rise isn't a temp thing or bubble, but real and the stable volume is supporting that price

It's purely a limited supply, they get lost regularly and that they rock compared to normal drones. I suspect people held off buying in hopes of a Christmas reissue. Now it's unlikely we'll see supply increase on a large scale for a while. Or someone has been slowly buying up them to corner the market and relisted theirs recently.

PS- Generally you want to hold on to any special issue item for at least a year. Holding on beyond that starts to risk the item being surpassed by something else. Of course hold on 3-5 years and it's a collector's item. Just keep in mind an item going from 10M to 100M in a year or 2 looks nice, but that same 10M invested in station trading or the like will easily make that of the same period.

They are finite till CCP decides to release more of them or make them producible to players (fat chance me thinks).

Even if that doesn't happen, nerfs, buffs and new items introduced could make them obsolete in the future resulting in price drop.

Nice item for daytrading though. When I'm actively trading (I'm not atm) it's one of my favorite items.

Perhaps not. The harvester drones that go for 200 m each I am told once went for pennies. Only thing I am not sure about was were they once build able or a gift item

The keyword being: "could". Not even current CCP staff can predict if the Gecko will one day be obsolete due to new addititions/changes to the game.

Diff between harvester drones and gecko's is prolly that there are way more gecko's then there ever were harvester drones. If the gecko should ever become obsolete chances on them becoming high value collectors items aren't good simply because of the quantity introduced into the game. I think every account active at the time got 7? That's a lot of geckos.

Compare them to other one-time-gifts that were given to all active players, most are not worth much at all, only the ones that are actually quite usuable (not niche-roles) are of any value, like the Leopard and the Gecko. If either are surpassed in usability due to changes to the game, expect them to become (a lot) less valueable.

Even if they were to become rare at one point, that still doesn't mean they will be worth much. If I pick up a single grain of sand from the yard it's likely that that grain of sand is completely unique in the entire universe in composition, mass and shape. It's about as rare as it gets, it's still not worth anything though....

Harvester drones came from hi sec NPC convoy ships.

So you'd attack the NPC and a harvester would drop?

Yes, the convoys could drop different types of mining drones in fact, but I have no idea if they did that often or you would have to be lucky. Others can explain it better.

With the Proteus release and the changes to fighter lock times, would this have impacted the carrier ratting group? Do ratting carriers use fighters or only Heavy/Sentries anyways?

My thoughts would be that fighters are now a least preferred "drone" to rat with making Geckos even better, spiking the market as well?

Thoughts?
