Forum Three Strikes Suggestion

After a suggestion In General Discussion that I thought was a very good idea, I thought "Hey, why not bring this to the proper subforum?"

The Forum Three Strikes Policy:

If someone posts three threads that are locked for reasons, their thread posting privileges on the account and all linked accounts are revoked for 24hrs. This will not effect the ability to post in already open threads. It should be automatic, and not tied to the warning/ban system that is already in place.

Edit: There should be a timeframe for these three strikes to occur within for the FTSP to come into effect. 12 hours seems logical, as it would catch the spam thread/ rant posters who are the ones this idea would help combat.

ISDs could have an option on their end to exclude/include thread from Three Strikes counter. ISDs do not have the ability to see which characters are on the same account or on linked accounts. This is why it needs to be automatic on the backend, where if three threads are locked that were created by three different toons, but all are linked to the same accounts, the FTSP is still implemented. This way no one can circumvent the system by switching characters.

This should cut down on the spam threads, and lessen the workload by ISDs, and hopefully encourage thoughtful New Topics.

Discussion, or further suggestions are welcome.

(Also, thanks to Paranoid Loyd for the idea!)

I can give but one +1 (and space like).

Guess you'll need a new name now though.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Only issues I see is troll swarms shitting up a legit OP to force locks and time (age) based locks (maybe exclude these).

However, +1 anyway

ISDs could have an option on their end to exclude thread from Three Strikes counter. This way if it was locked to due rampant troll derailment and not **** posting on behalf of the OP, its not counted. On the other hand, if the thread OP is deemed to be stealth rule breaking and encouraging trolling, etc, they can use their judgement and have the thread counted.

At first I was like no.

But then I read 24 hours. And now I'm like yes.

Though to be honest most shiptoasters don't post more than 3 threads at a time. Some do. You know who you are.

But it would be limited in usefulness... couldn't prevent infrequent shiptoasters in its current form.

The thing is, there is a trend, where you write a rant and then that gets locked, so you open an i'm butthurt about my thread getting locked thread, then you open another when that gets locked and just start flat out trolling, then another, rinse repeat. Go look at the front page of GD right now. It is comical.

Cant the ISD's warn/ban as they see fit using their own judgement?

Sure, 24 hours is a small penalty and as such won't cause any problems. Supported

No. I believe they have to kick that up to the next level.

But this would give ISD a way to help nip some spam posters in the bud without having to escalate to the Dev in charge.

How often are threads locked because of the OP post?

It seems many locked posts are due to others who joined in the conversation to derail it or otherwise troll the OP.

And what's a trolling OP post look like? If they post a thread "Let's talk about getting WiS back on the table", and the **** hits the fan by all the WiS haters, is that considered a trolling OP?

It seems to me that infrequent shiptoasters are little more than an annoyance; especially if something is done about the frequent shiptoasters.

Apparently even you have difficulty discerning legitimate questions from trolling.

Can the ISD's do better? One would hope so.

Most of the time they get due to OP:

Ranting
Posting GM conversations
Reposting a closed thread
Reposting the repost of a closed thread
Rumor mongering
Testposting.

Here's the thing; ISD's usually have engaged their brain when they lock or clean up a thread and can tell between OP breaking the rules and everyone else breaking the rules. You should try that sometimes, makes the world an easier place to live in.

This. I do not think any sort of banning system should be applied to the locking system. Ie: You had derps thinking that AFK cloaking is just never talked about - thats one strike for their ignorance, not their trolling.
