COST TO PLAY EVE

I've been playing EVE almost since beta with a few breaks. I can say that today EVE is too expensive to play. The amount of time required to maintain multiple accounts is excessive to say the least and the daily hours necessary are making EVE feel like work instead of playing a game.

Plex cost's must come down or I believe you will begin to see more and more players let their subscriptions lapse. In the gaming world today "Free to Play" has become the norm with income derived from paying for XP and Credit bonuses and special unique items.

I understand EVE was not established to function that way but its time for ccp and/or the council to take a long and hard look at this. Even though ccp has always maintained that EVE was an open sandbox but in reality changes have been made from the beginning to force players to play the game as the developers envision it should be. tinkering with the market to bring plex cost's down would not be setting new precedent.

Contract me your stuff on the way out.

Seriously. I work one job at just above livable wage, meaning I am just barely able to support myself without government assistance, and am able to maintain 3 accounts without using PLEX. If you want to threaten to close your subs because it's now harder to support yourself from in game, why wait? Just quit now and give your stuff to people that view this as a game, not as a second job. Good luck finding a f2p game that isn't either pay to win, or complete and utter carp.

You can always do what I have done and realise a: I can't afford the money to pay for all the accounts or b: I can't be bothered to spend all my time making money for plexes.

No offence but it's the people who plex the accounts that push the price up so why are you complaining when the price gets to high?

I don't even use plex. The fact that I have to pay a monthly (or every three months as it were) fee to play is not an issue for me since that one fee gets me the game, access for three months AND all expansion packs.

Now if I had to pay for server access AND the expansions? then we would have problems.

Edit: wait he is talking about Plex... thats subject to normal supply and demand. CCP is not going to effect the means to pay to play eve that gives them no money.

What was it last time, 130 bucks? for a full year subscription and I could play the game instead of have myself forced to grind for isk.

And no.
If CCP goes f2p it's over and out for EVE.

Let's never suggest Eve should go free to play again ok. The vast majority of free to play games are terrible games that almost force people to purchase bonuses or ingame currency to be competitive and keep up with everyone else. I'm more than happy to pay my $30 a month for both my accounts in order to avoid that pay to keep up bullshit in Eve.

If you feel that making enough Isk to pay for your accounts with PLEX is too much, then stop paying with Isk, or pay for some with isk and some with real money. It's not that hard a concept and any good consumer can make that choice. It's not up to CCP to regulate the cost of PLEX beyond making sure it doesn't spike or crash in a massive way. That's it. If people are willing to pay a billion isk a PLEX, then they will be sold for a billion isk. But if people aren't, then they will be sold cheaper.

The entrance, movement, and purchuse of PLEX is something that CCP tracks. They have an economics team that works on this topic. I know that many players are distressed over the price of PLEX. But on the side of Eve's health CCP is paying attention to it and they are the ones with the data to make that end decision. Also, it is to be remembered that PLEX entered Eve as part of the fight against RMT.

So you're complaining that you have to mission a few more times, in order to buy an in-game item that gives you 30 days play?

There is of course an easier and quicker way to pay, but then it would cost you RL cash and not time.

The system CCP has ended up with in regards to Plex, is a great one. Those with more RL cash than time can use it to trade for ISK and those with more RL time than cash can do the opposite. Both situations come with disadvantages. One of those for those that use Plex to pay, is that they are subject to the market and may need to rat more for their game time.

Seems to be working great tbh.

I really do not know why people whine about plex. Let me put this into perpective:

Last night I was in a c3 and soloed a data and relic site. Granted my ship was 3b isk, but still. In the aprx hour it took me to clear both sites, hack the cans, loot and salvage I made 400m. I got lucky on my nano's. But still. 400m. 1/2 the cost fo a plex in 1 hour.

you can get the isk for a plex in 1 single day. That's it, even less. You have been playing since beta... so clearly you are doing it wrong if eve is a 'second job'. I have a corp mate who grinded ut 1bisk in 3 weeks doing lvl'4. he rarly plays more then an hour a day.

Again, not that difficult. And no, eve never needs to be FTP, there is enough whining over plex as there is.

Its a mutiple, sided mechanism, high plex prices also mean players who invest more rl money in eve get a better bang for thier Buck. U wont hear the seller complain.

On the other hand it might mean more people pay with isk, so suply demand mechanism. Or less people buy spare plex, or soend them on other things.

High plex price are also bad for black markets, and farming becomes a task not worth the effort to gain rl money. Imagine having to get dollars for your roebel or other international currency changes..

There is no fixed exchange, and its also alot suply demand driven, as u can imagine, so u can harldy blame ccp for pushing people outside the game. The amount of hours grinding for a plex ate better served in a little job tbh, flip burgers or wash a car a month, versus 10-20 h a month grinding. Its a choice ofc, and yeh u need to work more hours whe price rises.consider what u like doing best and make a assesment of your situation what fits u best when things change.

I can't afford to play f2p games

But 9 quid a month each for 2 accounts is fine...

Eve isn't expensive at all for me when I factor in cost versus time spent playing. It's possibly the cheapest hobby I have.

I dont get it.

Plex prices are player-driven, are they not? Complaining to CCP about Plex prices, makes as much sense as complaining to CCP about why there are no players willing to buy your rifter for 10 billion isk.
