So I was looking over the statistics from CCP and was surprised to see the Ishtar on the top 20 list of PVP ships. I love the Ishtar for PVE but haven't tried it for PVP.

Yes I have perused battleclinic fits, but I was also going to ask here what kind of fits people like and any Ishtar strategies they find good.

For example I generally use a sentry ishtar for PVE, but have never used sentries in PVP.

If it's anything like how I see people fly the vexor, you go hunting expensive frigates that are used to wtfpwning cruiser hulls. There's no telling how many dramiels have been suicided into the vexor and arby.

The thing that Makes the Ishtar so nice for PvP is the 5:5:5 layout. It gives massive flexibility with fits. The resists mean that with two resistance modules you can create strong omni resists and you can do this for both armor and shield tank.

Sentries in PvP are nice in that they can dish out heavy damage at lots of ranges but a bad in that they get shot down and dropping/collecting them is a pain and requires practice.

Armor Dual Prop Brick Tank
Tank: 88k EHP (83%, 79%, 90%, 80%) - overloaded hardener + slaves.
Speed: 1920 with overloaded mwd. 531 with AB on.
Damage: 495 Garde II. 570 with guns on if you get very close.

The trick with this fit is either to catch and splat frigs or to get in very close to larger (BC) targets and orbit very tightly with the AB on. However, being armor tanked you will have to ensure you chose your engagement position carefully to avoid being kited to death.

Shield Nano
Tank: 44k (47 o/l)
Speed: 1928. 2750 o/l
DPS: 530 with Garde II + Barrage.

To be honest I think the Gila does this job a little better, however, the Ishtar is faster.

A bit of advice on flying Ishtar. Don't use sentries in PVP. Use Ogre II's for sure. Get in close, web them, and pound them with the Ogres.

The armor fit above is ok, but the Ishtar really shines with a dual rep + cap booster.

i have experimented a lot with the Sentar in pvp. it's amazing when it works, but generally, you'll screw yourself trying to scoop your sentries before warping. you do not have the gtfo ability.

secondly, the armortar and nanotar do not work well. armortar is outperformed by any BC. you will not be putting out significant dps, and you'll be a brick. nanotar does not get enough EHP. the Gila does this much better:

[Gila, nano]
Damage Control II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Overdrive Injector System II

Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive
Large Shield Extender II

Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I

Curator II x5
Valkyrie II x5
Warrior II x5
Vespa EC-600 x5
Ogre II x5

2k m/s, close to 600dps, flexible range, 75k EHP (!!!) - these are BC-like stats with nano speeds.

sadly, i no longer use my Ishtar for pvp, just for plexing. it is generally outperformed by the Gila in the pvp department. there is one setup that works for the Ishtar, and it is a formidable solo/small gang setup:

[Ishtar, solo]
Medium Armor Repairer II
Medium Armor Repairer II
N-Type Explosive Hardener I
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Damage Control II

Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive
Medium Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Cap Booster 400

Medium Pulse Laser II, Scorch S

Medium Nanobot Accelerator I
Medium Auxiliary Nano Pump I

Ogre II x5
Berserker II x5
Valkyrie II x5
Warrior II x5
Vespa EC-600 x5

Edit: also, the Snipetar used to be semi-viable for jokes. 400 kinetic or 470 explosive dps from 100km, no buffer but lots of speed. this is no longer possible as it would get 2-volleyed by an arty Tornado. Thanks CCP.

Using Ogre IIs close in on a single target works well and also allows for pulling them back in if the target tries to kill them.

In a bigger fight you will find that Ogre's take too long to travel between targets. Futhermore, in a fight with more ships you will find it a lot less likely that someone will be shooting your drones (though clearly not impossible). Smartbombs and SB's bombing drones is an issue but this tends to be more of an issue with close-in drones instead of sentries dropped a short distance from the fight.

I've found that in a gate fight being in a Domi/Ishar/Gila that dumping the sentries and shooting up the primaries works very well. If you carry a set of Ogre II to back you up then even if the sentries get shot down then you can simply launch the Ogre II's anyway.

TL;DR: Sentries are pretty good in PvP when compared to Ogre II's as the alternative.

Ogre's are pretty slow and not very good for todays mostly skirmish based pvp .... almost any ship can simply outrun them ... even BS with mwd. they are only good on a tackled target right in front of you ... in almost all other scenarios sentries will be better or berserkers(still slow)
