My boner is unjustified

I was really excited about the prospect of abusing the new D-Scan hack that Combat Recons will have now, especially in WH-S.

It's just me in my corp. Well, me and 2 accounts and 2 main chars, so when it comes to ganking fellow wormhole friends, I need one to find / tackle Tengufags and one to gank.

So the thought of having a long pointing, non-d-scan-able ship seemed like a dream come true.

But the more I thought about it, the more I realised that in a 2 man crew, I'm still better off with a cloaky Proteus.

Yes, you can jump into the target system undetected on d-scan, but you still need to drop probes if they are in a signature. So you can warp to an anom without being detected until you land on grid...but there's no way of knowing where you will land on grid in relation to the Tengufag and no idea if there are still a load of sleepers on grid that could switch to you (something that's not an issue with a plated Proteus).

And if there's only 2 of you, if you're going to use a covert ops to get a decent warp in for the Recon, you might as well just use a Proteus to begin with.

Also in 0.0, the Ishtarfags just log off as soon as ANYONE else comes into local, regardless of what ship they're in.

Thoughts? Anyone thought of another way of abusing these new toys? Or is my boner unjustified?

Basically this. It's not going to affect wspace all that much, imo.

Your observations, plus the fact that the combat recon defensive stats didn't change all that much meaning that they're still relatively squishy under directed fire.

I believe that these will create the highest total of tears in null and FW space.

I'm right behind you

I was not impressed with them pulling back on the proposed changes. Combat recons will still get primaried right off the field without much issue except the curse maybe. I don't think their roles are going to change significantly in wspace. Or anywhere for that matter. Quite disappointing.

It sounds more impressive than it is. For the "don't think stuff through" crowd...

So to everyone's surprise a change in EvE Online does not favor the small guy?

If you have only two accounts at your disposal, then the new combat recons are not all that great indeed. That is, for anything but killing miners. Miners are gonna have a gud time, now more than ever.

Things may change though for somewhat larger gangs. IF you find someone running a regular combat site a combination of lach+huginn should offer plenty point/web range + tank to hold the target until backup arrives.

It's not just about ganking people in sites, however.

When I'm out engaging a larger group d-scan would provide me with good information on what might be coming to aid those already on grid. Now, If a Helios suddenly disappears from dscan, did he cloak? Or is there some recon on route about to join the fray?

the no dscan thing is WAY worse than just being covops cloakable.
people complaining about it have no idea what theyre babbling about.

im actually really sad that ccp are making that change though because it's irrelevant and has taken ALL the discussion away from the real issues with recons such as no tank or dps or fitting space.
the result is that recons will remain 95% useless but that's ok, cos you wont be able to dscan them!

this change is turning them into PVE ships (this change is only relevant for PVE uses) which is a fkn travesty for what should be a great line of PVP ships.

That's only partially true. I have literally never seen people use combat scanner probes for detecting ships entering the system while people regularly flee the scene after seeing me on dscan during that short period between decloak / cloak after a hole jump. Even if it's only a small percentage, anything that makes life even harder for people doing stuff in low class wormholes I think is worth talking about.

With this I agree. I blame CCP Rise for pushing (t)his stupid dscan immunity idea through no matter what. Combat recons could have been a great thing ... but now they will just suck for everyone safe blobbers.

Hopefully they'll get the buffs back but yes a proteus is better for the most part. But as much as i love my space motorbike the cockpit gets a bit smelly so ive got to fly something else sometimes.

You're basically cloaked when you leave the second ship a couple thousand km off a hole. A Curse also adds a lot more to a pve-gank compared to a second cloaky prot (like 350+ dps and all those neuts). Good choice if you gank a lot of people soloing c3/c4 sites.
