Mexallon - The Economy's Weakest Link

Something is driving this price up.
The supply is not meeting the demand.
The market doesn't have the volume it normally does.
In the last month it has nearly doubled in price from 28 up to 48-50 now.
When you place a buy order, you get .01'd so often that by the time you fulfill it, you've paid more than if you had bought from the sell orders.
Jita buy prices are above Amarr sell prices.

Is this the new Goon conspiracy for market manipulation? Or random coincidence? Can't control the trit and pyerite, likewise the high ends are too easily supplied by WHs and nullsec. This middle ground mineral can not be mined easily in bulk, it makes the perfect strangehold chokepoint to raise the price of all T1 goods by 15-17% so far.

Much of the problem would be due to speculators like me. I don't care what you (or anyone) need Mexallon to do. I care only that I can bounce the price to make a ridiculous profit in a matter of hours. Right now, you can successfully bounce the entire Mexallon market over the course of a few hours with few alts in central hubs and about 4 - 5 Billion ISK.

Do you have any idea how trivial that is and how many speculators start feeling the money hairs on the back of their necks tingle when they see enough bouncing? It snowballs faster than you'd believe as the lemmings come pouring in like manna from Heaven to do what I couldn't possibly afford to do in terms of time, effort, and ISK. They take all the risks in the swings and all that's left is profit. There are about a dozen major commodities on the market right now which are similarly trivial to bounce in a similar fashion. Liquid Ozone is another one. Throw a few billion in at the right time and the right place, then watch the fireworks. Profit, rinse, repeat.

Is that clear and simply stated enough for you? Rather than posting every idle question, spend a little time over the course of a few days actually watching how items move in the major markets.

My guess would be, there's a lot of people out there building ltos and lots of tier 3 BCs. Quite a few of the high research BPO's should about now be comeing out of research and it's time to set those to work.
Add to that that the market for mex isn't all that flexible, as it comes from plagio and kernite. Kernite however is also used in level 4 missions, hence it's higher than regular price, so refining this at a loss is a bad idea, meaning that the only people that supply the market with mex is the ones mining plagio.
Now, Plagio is found in Minnie and Gallente space, and in gallente space i think people are a little wary of mining, lest some bored goons decide that there's not enough macks to shoot, so go for some belt mining hulks instead.

Only regular Kernite is used for L4 storyline missions, and those storyline missions are now a bit rarer since CCP added other potential storyline missions. The +5% and +10% ores still get refined down into minerals.

While Kernite is the biggest feeder of Mexallon, there's also Pyrox. Both of which are found in Amarr regions. In Minmatar regions, only Plagio contains Mex unless you go to lo-sec (Jaspet) or find a grav site. However, the Minmatar regions are not highly populated and I'm not sure that the Amarr regions are as much as they used to be.

A bit of market speculation, but mostly demand outstripping supply - and supply side hasn't changed course yet to start mining the better ores.

Price has been rising since the expansion came out. It's the real bottleneck for the tier 3 BCs, with about a quarter million units per.

Pyrox doesn't contain mex, only nox and trit.

and yes I know the 5% and 10%s get refined, however, there's less of that around, and when someone is mining kernite, they would go for the smart option, of mining the regular stuff, which earns them more, unless the price of mex goes up, so the richer ores are worth mining for minerals.

As for minnie space being underpopulated. Possibly, but that only enhances my point of the mex being inflexible to demand.

http://eve.grismar.net/ore/

1 batch of Pyrox contains: 844 Trit 59 Pye 120 Mex 11 Nocx

(It is, however, the 3rd worst source of Mex from all the hi-sec ores. But it's also worth about 139 ISK/m3 at the moment, with Plag at 129 ISK/m3, Kern at 125 ISK/m3 and Veld/Scord at around 98-100 ISK/m3. Lo-sec ores are running 153-166 ISK/m3 range. Pyrox has been the hi-sec darling of the ores for the past few months.

And I think Pyrox was changed a while ago to include Mex/Pye.)

I don't know about everyone else but I sold my mex when the price spiked and now I barely have enough to make antimatter L.

The price of antimatter L has shot up too. I suspect it's a combination of the new battle-cruisers and the hybrid re-balance.

Where are the hisec bots mining Plagioclase?

Odyssey: Repacking in POS hangars for modules +1,  but please for other stuff too, especially containers. Make containers openable in POS hangars.
