Has this game ever been hacked or cheats been made?

I was just debating with my Dad. He says that hackers will always gravitate towards a challenge so if there are no cheats or hacks for this game then hackers will soon find a way and break the game because they like the challenge. He said if I check youtube I'll probably find loads of them

I said that CCP is a huge corporation that employs loads of people including the deen of a university for economics and stuff and that due to the nature of the game it would destroy it if someone did hack it.

However, I haven't played long and don't know much about this so I thought I'd ask here. To those people who've played a long time, has this game ever been hacked and if so, how common are hacks and cheats and if I'm right then what can I say to persuade him?

Yes, Eve has been hacked. CCP is fairly quick to ban those involved, they don't really like hacks and cheats being discussed on the forums though. In case it gives people ideas.

Plenty of hacks and cheats have been there. Hell, if you think it wasnt in a 11+ year old game...boy you are naive.

Luckily, CCP has a great zero policy stance to it and just ban you.

Lets see, spam bots. Mining bots. Warp-to-zero hack. Market bots. Just to name a few

There's been lots of python injections, lots of ppl toying with stuff they shouldn't and it's been used on a rather large scale. That has changed since CCP started paying attention to it and implemented real time detection. No idea on the current state of things but I haven't heard or seen anything on that subject in a long while so that's a good thing.

Ban Summary:
* Modified Client 4%
* Macro Use 56%

I suspect client modification has dropped a lot since CCP starting making detection dynamic.

There have been exploits. The devs have implemented automatic detection (your computer and activities in-game are logged and monitored) and they periodically ban people who cheat, every now and then by the thousands, as they catch them. They have several bug-testing servers and players do report bugs and exploits that they find.

All in all it's been pretty clean, as far as games go. It's in CCP's interest to keep the game free of exploits.

Although heavily editors the CSM minutes there's a security briefing given to the CSM ccp is good about reacting to real word threats to the game and the player base. They have pretty forward with what's going on with number accounts ban and why.

Macros and client mods are all done client side. On the server side we've also had a couple of DDOS attacks. I'm not sure if anyone's ever managed to hack into CCP's servers though.

On just the 'cheating' side, I've personally reported at least 3 exploits, one of which would have had gamewide repercussions if not addressed. That one was addressed within hours, the others were closed in reasonable time.

Well there's also been internal cheating CCPers, but that was a long time ago now.
What is written here is probably trivial to what can happen (and people are tryhing to make happen) which CCP seems to (and probably should) keep quiet about.
