So there was a thread in our alliance calling for ideas on what to rename a specific station. The thread became rather active and there were more then a few ideas suggested and voted upon that were popular. The idea one corp leader put forward referred to a specific joke involving another one of our corps members and it ended up being such an amusing idea it was decided another station would get the suggested name. I made this forum banner with some degree of pride for my corp, and for James Messina (Who really does love Forum PMs) on his new found space fame.

This got me thinking,.. It would be pretty damn cool to memorialize certain events that happen with putting up monument structures. Vile Rat, the fall of BoB, DhD's AID convoy, and Montollio going insane comes to mind. EvE is a social game and we love our emergent lore and propaganda. Being able to up a semi permanent structure to honor (or dishonor) certain events would be pretty damn cool I think.

A few ideas...

  • They should require a great commitment.

When a monument is built, it should require a great commitment logistically and the monument should be set in stone once it's up. You get to name it and set it's description and then you hit the 'bake' button. That is what it is until...

  • They should be semi-permanent content generators.

This gives hostiles something to come and prod for fights with that don't necessarily involve a full on SOV invasion, because lets be honest, no one likes the grind right now. Attacking and destroying them should be entirely uninvolved from SOV. It gives local Alliances something to undock and fight for. It should require a great commitment to build or destroy a monument, it should be difficult enough to shoot down that it doesn't become another strategic objective, unless the objective is to demoralize the enemy. It's also something an alliance can do after a successful invasion.

The name should follow the format of spoilers. For example,

Catelyn Stark is undead
King Joffrey dies
Tyrion kills Shae

These are just a few to name.

I like the current nullsec monuments. They're like crop circles in space!
