Leaving EVE and donating an Obelisk

I have played EVE on and off since 2007 and have never flown a freighter. I have spent the last few weeks liquidating all my assets and manufacturing all the components required to build an Obelisk.

I now have all the components and have started the job to build the Obelisk (finishes on 17th January). I want to fly the Obelisk so I can tick off that milestone but then what do I do?

I only have a few hours each week to play EVE and can't commit to any set times so spend most of my time doing missions, industry, trading, PI.

The way I look at it I have two options:

Option 1 - fly the Obelisk for a while then sell it for 1.3 billion and have some spending money for if I ever play EVE again OR

Option 2 - donate my Obelisk to some deserving cause and reduce my net worth to almost zero thus removing the temptation of playing EVE again.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome,

JohnLewis

Join a large corp for newer/casual players. Use the Obelisk to help them out when you have free time.

Eve is the one MMO you should never cash in on, because coming back is so much harder than just hittng a new level cap and doing some instances with pugs.

Contact Chribba and ask him to donate it to the next PLEX4GOOD.

Don't give it to anyone else, they're all sinister and eat babies.

Excellent plan. New player corps always need stuff shipped around plus just seeing how big a freighter is can be quite something to totally new guys.

You'll be back. That's just the way it is.

So don't do anything rash. Hang onto your assets (except the leftover blueprints that you can give to me) and you'll not be starting over at zero when you next resub.

I have a Fenrir I built a few years ago. I must have used it three or four times, but those were times it really, really came in handy and spared me a huge transport grind. One might argue that's what courier contracts are for, but I like owning lots of different ships, and use the right one for the task at hand when needed.

If you have the slightest doubts that you may come back from quitting, keep the ship. See it this way: if you get rid of it as an incentive not to return, you still might - and that would just be sad. Freighter's aren't the most fun ships in EVE, but they are a noteworthy achievement, especially if you built it yourself.

My advice: give it a meaningful name and keep it. Dust it off now and then. Be proud that you built it yourself.

if you don't have time to play eve, don't play eve. Giving stuff away is stupid. If you come back in a few years you will need it. If you don't come back it won't hurt you to keep it.

just don't play when you don't have time ;)

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Option 1

EVE is a game where you want to come back after a time, maybe just for checking what changed, maybe because you want to feel again how it is to lose a ship to gank or gatecamp or overpowered rats or just enemy fleet.
