With max settings, the effects just look off -- especially the close ones. They objects don't feel like they are correctly lit.

I would also recommend varying the sizes of the objects a bit more and allowing them to be spaced further apart and reducing somewhat the overall number of them.

Unchecking the option mentioned above does not disable the particle rocks. The only way to do it is to reduce the shader quality to low which makes everything else look like cr4p.

CCP Philosophy ==>>

  1. If it works, break it. If it’s broken, leave it and break something else.

  2. Ignore all Forum comments that raise issues and concerns about our "features", and bring said "features" in anyway.

DX9

Looks nice, finally CCP did something with effects that didn't shoot my GPU in the head and leave it for dead (thinking mission clouds).

+1 for both ice and rocks.

u probably will have to leave grid and come back to make the changes work (or restart client)

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

^This. Any setting change may well require warping to a new belt to see.

Great - can't wait! Any idea when you guys are going to start supporting OSX 10.10 and the new Radeon cards so we Mac users can start seeing some of the new improvements? Specifically:

• OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
• AMD Radeon R9 M290X and M295X

After recently upgrading my Mac I was somewhat disappointed to learn that I'm still limited to a "Medium" shader setting.

Took a quick tour tonight. Posted a few pics here:
http://interstellarprivateer.wordpress.com/2015/01/02/sisi-proteus-asteroid-effects/

I like the effects. These were shot with all effects on except for camera shake and Anti-Aliasing.
Win 7, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon 6800/1GB

I think you really missed an opportunity to dress up the Shattered planets! Would be great if you could do this around them as well. It would really add to the feel.

Nice work CCP. Had a look and love it. Did not notice any real frame rate drop.

New gas giants next please?

It's my impression or the debris fields at the ice belts are made of dark, rocky bodies? Shouldn't they be made of white stuff, like small chunks of ice?

My usual settings are
No post processing
Medium shader

DX9 (DX11 would cause me to crash frequently)
GT650m (laptop card, low performance expected)

Asteroids would typically plunge my FPS.

1) At first I had the rays and asteroid env. on.
This time my FPS was pretty solid and didn't go below 40, which was surprising considering how much "stuff" was on my screen.

2)Putting everything on High would reduce the FPS to 23~40.

3) Rays+Asteroid Environment
Medium shader Low post processing GPU particles (for what its worth)
Very pleasant performance. 71 FPS almost constant. Looks relatively pretty, considering low post processing and medium shader.

Common issue is hitching when turning camera.

DX11
Doesn't seem to crash anymore
1) Same medium shader and low post processing - roughly same 70 FPS
2) High post processing about 60 FPS
3) High shader, High post processing, GPU particles, 41 FPS.

More importantly - no hitching! Frames roll smoothly.

Those new shattered planets could do with this type of facelift. Probably still going to happen. Love the new effects and the new Exequror hull effects.

I just tested it again with the latest Sisi build. I still get 30 fps away from the belt, 1.7 in the belt.

CCP Mannapi, in a previous post you said that 35-40 seemed a bit low, and seemed to be concerned about it. If you are concerned with 35-40, how do you feel about 1.7 ? And, more importantly, what will you do about it?

My first visit to an asteroid field resulting in an immediate freeze of the client (disabling multithreaded OpenGL fixed it for subsequent visits). I'm still limited to a "Medium" shader setting, so I'm going on the assumption that the "Asteroid Environments" setting comprises both fog and particle rocks" and that "Light Rays" are god rays since I only got the small chunks of rocks.

Frame rate was hovering around 58-60 FPS with all graphics options set to High ("Medium" shader). Can you expand on why I'd still be limited to a "Medium" shader setting with an AMD Radeon R9 M295X? Thanks.

I've tested asteroid belts with light rays effects on and here are the results:
test case 1:
Station your ship (speed = 0) before ast. field and point camera through belt onto sun. Move camera around
Results:
Nice effects, Fps within acceptable rate 50-60.

test case 2:
From your point in space (test case1) move your ship parallel to ast. field pointing camera onto sun. Move camera around.
Results:
Nice effects still present. Fps drops to 30(still acceptable). Movement of camera and ship appear to be freezing or have strange lag.
I think there is some blocking calculation of shaders or other stuff going on that results in freezing movments.
PS: i7, 8gb Ram, Nvidia 450gts

Status update: after new patches test case 2 does not seem to have performance issue. Fps still drops to 30 but thats ok

Just did the mass test. Still just as bad for me: 1.7 FPS in a belt. For comparison, during the PvP part of the test I get 8 FPS zoomed out, and 4 zoomed in. In clear space with just a station and maybe a ship or three, I get 30.

Any progress on the lack of a "High" shader setting for Mac users?

Have you down loaded EVE Probe so your setup is in the graphics team database with values?

If i dont know something about EVE. I check https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/ISK_The_Guide

See you around the universe.
