The "Eve is dying" metrics

Metrics I have noticed that measure the decline of Eve.

1. Market activity declining - Jita actually more expensive for items than other systems (Rens)
2. Player counts dropping
3. Ability to type a full sentence in Jita before the window scrolls.
4. Free AUR handed out like candy
5. PLEX bulk offers (overpriced) desperation bundles
6. Local trolling non existent, even the rats jumped ship

What have you noticed as a metric that shows Eve is in decline?

Yes that's another thing I noticed, the forums threads have slowed up too.

I log in at very random times across the 23 hour up time and I see a drop off in server population that is around 10k for what I regularly saw as an average.

The inflation iis something that is needed and is a result of the isk faucet slowing down as numerous alts are no longer loggin in grinding isk, moving stuff, building stuff, etc.

Of course this is all speculation on my part and my opinion could be completely over or underestimated.

1. Prices fluctuate over time. They rise and fall. Some items are more expensive than others. And Jita hasn't been the cheapest place to buy stuff from the market.
2. Define player count: active subscriptions, people logged on Tranquility, botters botting, physical people playing vs number of alts they are running, etc.
3. This doesn't necessarily mean that Eve is dying. Perhaps at one moment, a lot of people happened to be afk or had their attention shifted somewhere else instead of spamming the local chat with garbage outdated scams.
4. Can I has your Aurum?
5. Desperate? Maybe. Got any supporting info to back up this claim?
6. Trolls are everywhere. Just don't feed them.

Rens has always been cheaper, or at least competitive with Jita. In Jita you've got more 'career' salesmen, who regularly buy up all of something just to jack the price up. In Rens that still happens, of course, but not so often.

Rens has not always been cheaper :) Especially when I am there.

I actually buy up all the items in Rens and jack up the prices there.

Jita has slowed down and risen in price.

Market activity has declined noticeably that it takes now longer to sell items that would be gone fast.

There was an across the board drop in sales that coincided with the last wave of bot bans and continues to this day. It's my belief the drop in sale is the result of removing market bots, but there are many other theories, the most predictable of them being "EVE is dying!!one1!"

Winter yeah, thats the patch they nerf the popular ships, also when they dump out 700mb x 3 for the new capitans closets for the other 3 races.

I wouldn't say EVE is dying more like EVE is stagnating at the moment also the PLEX offer did come across as desperate even if it isn't.

I hardly log on anymore, not because of incarna (at least, i'm not protesting or anything), i just really am not interested anymore. Guess i've just burned out, tried everything and now i'm bored. I've been playing solidly since march 2007, and i mean solidly, so i guess as far as games go eve has served me well. :)

On the rare occasion i log in to catch up with mates etc, i have been noticing the number of people logged in has declined from an average 40-45k on weekdays, and 50k+ on weekends in my timezone, to roughly 10k less on any day. This can be put down to botters being banned i guess, but likely not, since CCP made a big PR campaign about UNHOLY RAAAAAAGE LOOK GUYS WE BANNED ~2K BOTS, you'd think they'd be all over the place giving themselves public pats on the back and circlejerking about their awesomeness after dealing with 10k bots, or even another 2k for that matter.

But they aren't.

So, it's most likely down to less alts being logged in. This speaks volumes in itself about the poor quality of the client, and carries with it far reaching economic effects. How drastic those effects will be, we can only speculate, but one thing is for sure -

Whether its through bans, unhappiness, or just inability to run the client, a lot less people are logging on, and it WILL effect the game, and the value of isk, isk is now tied to plex, and plex means dorrah for CCP. Eves economy, the core of the game, is in a shakey state at the moment.

Well whatever CCP does, this year is 2011, a lot of new games are comming out, if the Winter patch doesn't make it more fun, which it won't, it is simply more nerfs and more capitans closets and large patches, that is their last chance really.

I am playing out my isk as gametime, yearly sub cancelled, currently I have more isk for gametime than eve has lifetime, and my isk is always going up.

No new money from me, that goes to the new 2011 MMO's and Games, and telescopes and accessories :)

the fact that I can do everything I need to through the mail interface in EVEGate more or less lately. I only log in to switch skills and a few other things. This is actually not a bad thing, imo, and may work to my advantage in a couple months.

All i know is im not going to pay or take the time to make isk to keep my accounts active when i have to pay for a swtor sub,buy bf3,D3,gw2. Things need to be done that actually improve fun in this game.

Speaking for myself, I lost my Maelstrom in a lvl4 which was my only mission ship and have zero isk so I've been in limbo for almost 3 months now. I still pay and log in to change skills though because I'm addicted to my characters personal progress. Cry
