Apart from joining PIE, I can't see it being too much of a detriment. It just means you're not one of God's chosen people, so roll that into your character.

Back in the talk we had with the devs about clothes and cosmethics, they implied that bloodline hybridization (using looks from two races to create an unique combination) wasn't completely off the table. That was said with all the caution you'd expect from a dev though.

Personaly I'm 10 months into the game and had to roll a Gallente to improve my looks 5 months in, and having the option to make a character from scratch while keeping the skills would probably be cool, I guess. Not planning on "race change" anytime sooner however.

Know your pain, I started the game back in 2005 or so as an achura caldari (Almost everyone did back then, as they have more attributes than the rest.) I regretted it later on and made a new main that is pure Amarrian. I still keep my old guy around as an indy/trade alt.

Sadly your only choice for the foreseeable future is to make a new character.
