When does a static wh timer start?

I've lived in wh's for more than a year now and am well familiar with the decay of static wh's. However, just the last few days I've noticed something.

I got a set of new statics, and no other wh's are around, so I scan them and bm them, but don't warp to them. With IRL stuff, I don't get time to do much, so I log out.

24-30 hours later, I log in again and notice my statics are still there with the same ID's (odd since they live 16 and 24 hours normally), I figure they must be eol, but I warp there and they are not.

I guess the only way this is possible is if the 16 or 24 hour decay timer doesn't start until someone warps to the hole. Is this right?

The timer starts when you initiate warp to it.

As jack says, you warp it starts timer but will not appear on other side until you either jump thru it, or the random spawn timer kicks in.

hi some follow up questions ;p
I found two other named connections in my wormhole which are not the static, I warped to them but did not jump through. Do they appear on the other side as K162? I read the link but it does not show the final decisions CCP made, as ''Although K162 signatures will not appear as soon as a player warps to them (as they do currently), they will have a random chance to appear every several minutes once the wormhole connection has less than 15 hours of natural lifetime remaining'. Is this true on TQ now?

a general assumption: all signals do not start their timers until one warps to them; WH connections are not actually established until the first person jumping through them?

Thank you.

If you warp to a wh (not a K162, which is obviously inbound) but dont jump then you still trigger the life cycle of the hole. So if we take a c247 as an example, and assume no one warped to it beforehand. this WH has a life of 16hrs, so 1 hr after u warp the random auto-spawn timer will kick in. meaning that at anytime it can automatically spawn K162 on the other side without you jumping thru.

yes, as explained above.

that is partly correct, but if the wh has less than 15hrs it can self-spawn...
