I would so be good for this, indoor or outdoor. Football (American soccer) in the snow is pretty fun too in case nobody has tried it before.

I just need to know before hand so I can make sure to pack my cleats and goalie gloves, if anyone else more amazing in goal doesn't volunteer first. I used to be a pretty decent keeper, then I blew out 1 shoulder during a game, couple years later ended up tearing some ligaments in the other shoulder and had surgery, so not as good and quick as I was in my younger years but definitely hoping this happens as it could be a lot of fun.

I was thinking about trying to do some hiking, but then realized there might still be a lot of snow still around. So packing everything into a single carry on might be a bit more of a challenge now.

And I can get my brother to play too, occasionally I will sucker him into playing on my Friday night indoor league when we are going to be short on players or have no subs... shoot, almost forgot, game in 2 hours. Thanks for reminding me random dev video I just watched.

Yes, bring cleats and whatever gear you need for a game! This goes for everyone that is interested! We will be making efforts to make sure that this reaches as many as possible before they arrive in Iceland so that we can have at least 20 players with gear ready to sign up on the opening day. We are hoping to have it full size with unlimited subs, but we will adapt depending on signups and general preference.

Jeez, I REALLY wish I could get to fanfest- I've never gone and this year seems like it's going to be the best one yet!

It's my favorite sport- I'd love to play! (Can I be invited as a Jovian ambassador? P) At least make sure it's in the stream if it goes through!

And jeez, I really wanted to be there for the eclipse- if only this was all happening in 2016, then I'd be there for sure Smile

You should give a ship skin with a ball's pattern to the winner! '(Insert Ship Name) Overtime Edition' or 'Striker Edition' Big smile

Interested, but mostly depends on the when and the height of the snow.

I don't know the facilities in Reykjavik but indoors might be better and also easier to fill the teams

edit: or in Laugardalsvöllur where we can play on turkish or dutch tears.

Can any Reykjavikian post an estimate cost of gear and where we could get it?
My luggage space will be unusually limited and since this event is uncertain, I'd like to consider the 'buy on demand' option. After all, we are rich space ship commanders *cough*, right?

A shame cricket wasn't offered as an option..I know most would assume you need to know what a crumpet is to understand cricket...

Very expensive... probably at least double what you'd pay in your country. It would probably be cheaper to just pay the fee for an extra bag What?

:(

Not that I would need to really get another pair, I have half a dozen already.

Anyhoo I also thought, now maybe once this gets more developed, are we going to have a team color or t-shirts for each team? Cause playing with a rainbow of colors on the field becomes slightly taxing for those of us not so young people keep track of which team the rest of the people on field are on.

We'll probably get some shirts printed so we actually have teams, not just some random bunch of people running around :)

whatever happend to shirts vs skins?

Also im guessing this would be taking place on the thursday evening as well, when all off the smaller events are goin on ( I was at the Karioke night last year :p )

And if you start on the beers/shots/drinking, you cant really play again, you just want to get hammered :D

Time has not been decided yet, but I would like it to be before the heavy drinking starts! Early afternoon perhaps.

I like this plan. Winners get celebratory drinks, losers get pain-numbing drinks. Could add some friendly drink-wagers in as well.

One more thing, the indoor field, the turf, what kind is it? Or more what types of cleats/turf shoes do they allow or would you recommend? Like legit grass like turf or just green carpet or somewhere in between?

My local indoor field has some pretty awesome turf that we all use normal cleats on just fine as if we were on grass. But some indoor fields I've gone to don't allow cleats so I had to pick up some turf shoes. Good thing with the turf shoes is they easily double as normal shoes if I was running out of space to pack.

More fun after the drinking has started, surely.

At least, for the spectators.

Well the older I get the worse my ability to heal, and lack of health insurance at the moment minimizes my ability to pay for medical assistance in fixing whatever I break :(

normal cleats or turf shoes should be fine, but no cleats with metal studs please Smile
I don't know what field they have in mind, but I think pretty much all of them have the soft grasslike turf, and I would personally rather use cleats than turf shoes.
(although i'm still hoping for a truly indoor game on hardwood floor P)
